Up and at 'em, gang! The week is already underway - and your exercise should be, too ;).

I am into my 3rd Mesocycle this week and today was a fantastic workout :D! I was able to lift heavier than I've ever lifted and I'm sure you know how happy THAT made me :slywink:.

I'm hoping to hear from ALL of you this week - and that includes the MIAs like Martha, Billie, Jackie, and Claudette! (If I missed your name, that definitely means it's been far too long since you've checked in  )

Whoops, I told you I would do resistance today, but my dd came over and we wound up going into town to our "track" and she and her 2 daughters and one hubby, my dh, a dgs , assorted great grand children and I all walked for 40 min. It was a good family get together that didn't involve food--just good ol ' sunshine and walking. A good day. So I will hit the resistance for you tomorrow Ms. Shadow.

checking in with a m&s report, just not a good one... I went into analysis paralysis while shopping last week and came home with my money in my pocket and no new goodies. Then, my foot/ankle flared up again. I'll make an appt tomorrow. I'm disappointed on 2 levels, 1. I thought my MBTs had cured me, (maybe I played too hard,) 2. I don't like shots. Maybe I really need to think about the Y and start swimming, again. I dunno:confused:

Sandy - Great job :D!

Karole - I think it is awesome you guys all did that as a family :D!!!!! So even if you didn't get that resistance in, it did my heart good to hear about what you and your loved ones did !

Martha - I am sorry you ended up talking yourself out of everything! But I've been there myself and know just what it's like . I am so sorry you are hurting again :(. If it is easy/convenient for you to use a pool, that would be a great thing to do. Water exercise is much easier on the joints than pavement-pounding :).

Hello all,
Yesterday was a last day of my holidays and I spend as much time in university library as I can. It means less time for everything else and I came back to 20 mins workout again. (I leave home too early in the morning - at least from my point of view;) - to exercise before)
Sunday - 30 mins lower body (shortcuts)
Monday - 20 mins stationary bike (HIIT)

Shadow

Adina - Well, I guess if you think you leave too early in the morning to get a workout in, I can't *make* you do it then  ;). But I *can* and *do* expect you to get those workouts in somewhere ! Have fun at school - it's been a long time since you've had classes !

Thanks Shadow! You are so kind that I could even think about doing some 10 minutes early in the morning... once in a while;):D. OK, in fact I am serious about it.
And no, there is still no regular classes at my university (and most of 83 French universities). There are given some 'private study periods' when we can meet some of our teachers but believe me, it has nothing to do with the real classes, unfortunately.

Walk last night.
We set the timer for 15 minutes and walk away from our house, then we turn back when the timer goes off, but we didn't hear the timer, so I don't know exactly how long we walked, but it was at LEAST 45minutes.

Let's see, my workout week got mucked up when my PT told me she doesn't want me to do my lower body workoukt this week . She really didn't want me to do another cardio but I insisted in a very kind manner ;) and promised it wouldn't be high impact. She also banned me from my frequent walks, so this week has definitely not been up to par for me :(.

However, since hope springs eternal :slywink:, I have my fingers crossed that tomorrow she'll give me permission to get the lower body workout in and then I'll only be behind a little .

Beats me, Carol - and it appears to have them stumped, too . I just know that even though I have hurt pretty much non-stop for years, I could sleep at night. But the last 5 months I've had hip pain wake me every night, many times, and I finally decided I just couldn't take it anymore. Shadow, I had the EXACT same thing. Hip pain that woke me at night.
Two thoughts...

1. How old is your bed?? do you need to get a new bed? Sometimes when the bed is shot, or starting to be bad it kills the hips.
2. Could it be bursitis? If so, get a shot of cortisone. I first got it when I was 25 and had a shot. I didn't have pain for TEN years!
My bursitis is such now that I have learned to sleep on my back. I don't like it and it's very unnatural, but it is what it is.
If you do sleep on you back, put a pillow under your knees so you don't hurt your low back.

1. How old is your bed?? do you need to get a new bed? Sometimes when the bed is shot, or starting to be bad it kills the hips.
My bed has never been comfortable :o. But I tried using an air mattress and that hasn't helped either. As for the actual age of the bed, it's approx 11 years old. My gosh, where does time go ? But alak and alas, mattresses are very much out of my price range.
2. Could it be bursitis? If so, get a shot of cortisone. I first got it when I was 25 and had a shot. I didn't have pain for TEN years!
Bursitis was actually what I thought it was - but there are no bursa sacs. But it reminds me a lot of a chronic shoulder pain I've suffered from that was diagnosed as bursitis. What a pain - literally and figuratively !

My bursitis is such now that I have learned to sleep on my back. I don't like it and it's very unnatural, but it is what it is.
I have a terrible time on my back, too :(. But I am waking more often lying that way, like it or not .
If you do sleep on you back, put a pillow under your knees so you don't hurt your low back.
Thanks for the heads up! All I need right now is to move from one pain to another :p!

Honestly, my friend, IMHO nothing beats standard floor work for abs. I realize I shouldn't say since I haven't tried machines BUT from everything I read, the machines can cause a lot more harm than good. Just yesterday on Spark People there was an article about the machines not being built for women to use. Plus there's always the fact that adding more weight to an area you're trying to tone down is just going to bulk it up more. Finally, our core get used in everything we do so I don't think we need to get into overkill with them and exacerbate neck/back problems. If you get bored with the same old floor work, you can always use a medicine ball or stability ball for an additional challenge .

HI, y'all,

Oh, Shadow, I am so sorry to hear about your back pain. We went to to discount mattress place, and found a middle of the road mattress that really helped my back pain. Hope your doc can find out the reason.

This week, my exercise has been cardio as I have walked miles and miles at a convention!

Today, I did 40 minutes of Callanetics, tonight, a hike in my neighborhood.

Well, off to study. Please get to feeling better, Shadow.

Hugs,

Shadow

Speaking of my pain ...

I know it might be hard for all of you to believe, but it is entirely possible that my leg & pain has been caused by pushing the exercise a bit too much and the flexibility a bit too little. That is actually the new thinking as of today. So now we're focusing on ultra sound and something else, rather than adding on more exercises and stretching like they'd originally done.

But I thought I would mention all this just in case you've wondered why I harp on the stretching issue a bit more than you probably like ;).

Weds - cardio, abs
Thurs - off
Fri - lower body, PT stretches
Sat - will be yard work. Ah yes.... it's mowing/trimming time again . Of course, that's all contingent on the snow melting before then :p.

Shadow, what great thinking. You might need to add more flexibility. For me, at my "age", I need all the streching and flexiblitly I can get. Preach on!

Today, now, heading off to do level II in the Callanetics Countdown book, which will take about 45min - 1 hour. Possible walk tonight if rain doesn't come.

My exercise this week:
Monday, skipped the Tae Bo but did some leg exercises.
Tuesday, skipped everything. I was working in the office, time got away from me and I was so sleepy I lacked the motivation.
Wednesday, Upper body resistance.
Thursday, Tae Bo and Leg exercises. I've finally figured out how to do what I want to do with the resistance bands for my legs.
Friday - a really good upper body session with the bands. In fact, this morning I woke up feeling all of those muscles. But after being up and moving around for a while, felt fine.
Saturday - my usual break day - but to make up for Tuesday, did Tae Bo and legs.

That's probably when we got covered with ticks...yuck.:jawDrop:
Great walk, Amy ! Sorry about the ticks, though  :(!!!
