Let's go, gang, time is slipping away this week already!

I am going to change my routine since PT thinks I shouldn't do lower body . I have been given permission to ride my bike daily - except it now has a flat tire . So... that part of my workout is up for debate until I see if just getting air in it is going to work. If I can't get my bike fixed, I will go to the PT center & ride one of their bikes this week. Other than that, my week will be:

Sunday - Chest & yoga-based abs
Mon - Back & planks
Tues - Triceps
Weds - Biceps & abs
Thurs - Shoulders

Now - what are YOUR plans :suspicious:???

Hey Shadow,
I'm sorry to hear that your lower body needs some rest from moving, hopefully it will help you to feel better! And I hope you'll overcome the bike's flat tyre (perhaps mentioning your whip would be helpful? just an idea :D).

I started the day with 25 minutes of cardio. I tried a regular Tae Bo but ended up with the Post Natal version - I like it more. Then I did 5 minute stretch with Elle Macpherson and Karen Voight (+ Sting singing in the background) so all in all it was a nice workout.
My DH has gone to Moscow for a few days and I plan to use this time for some more sensible meal plan (up to 30 carbs/day + lots of water: I have some stubborn 2 lbs to get rid of) & for testing my new dvd: the Bar Method (Fat Free). (DH in Russia & our cat put behind the bedroom door - this time nobody is going to laugh for a change;)).
Will report tomorrow on my first attempt at working with Burr Leonard.

Just got back from a 24 min. walk outdoors. It was only 82 and that didn't sound very hot but it was pretty muggy so I was wishing I had opted for the elliptical instead. I will try to get the exercizing in earlier tomorrow before it gets up there.

So a few days ago I posted that I got a few set of squats in and some other thing. Well my legs have been so sore that I can hardly walk. Ice, tiger balm and stretching have been no help. so need less to say I still am not on a day to day plan :(

Ah yes, Starfish, we have all suffered the "too much, too soon" syndrome . While I'm sorry you have the setback, I'm glad you started - and now you will know next time to pace yourself a bit more :). Those lessons that are hard-learned usually last a while ;).

Glad to be back at it again, Shadow !! But...... I bent over to retrieve some clothing from the dryer this a.m. and pow went my back !!

I took a hot shower, some aspirin, and did 10 min. on the elliptical, then did some of my pt stretches. So far I am still walking upright and I hope it stays that way. Drat, drat, drat. It's been a little while since I had problems with my back but I sure am aggravated anyway. I am going to try some more time on the elliptical after while as long as it doesn't increase any pain.

Yep, I just got back from 10 days at the trailride---beautiful days to ride in the hi 70's and lo 80's during the day..... but lots of rain and threatening weather in the evenings. Siren blew once but nothing happened. So we had a great ride and we met a lot of nice folks who were there for the first time. It's sooooo fun, I wish you could come too, Ammy.

Funny it usually doesn't hurt me to ride, but then I have had a couple of times that I had to stay at the camper til I could get to a chiro. But mostly if my back is doing poorly (like right now) it just hurts when I am swinging my leg over the saddle. Once I'm up, I feel great.

Amy, I love your mouse! :D

Adina, in my experience bicycles simply give one the raspberries when one snaps one's whip at them.

Karole, it appears doing laundry is hazardous to your health!

Shadow, I had an awesome workout tonight. I was surfing blogs today and read that HIIT is a way to reduce insulin resistance and even more benefit is had by doing the resistance exercises first and cardio last. I decided to give it a try. He also mentioned that he starts out with a few reps of a warmup weight, then adds pounds on, so I tried two or three five-pound increments (of course, he's doing bench presses. I don't remember his name, but the website was something about animals, which turned out to be the kind you EAT.) On the arc trainer, I did four 30 sec bursts and on the bike I did about the same, but the bike finally brought my pulse up to max.

Karole, I hope you get well soon!

Yesterday I did a complete 30 minute dvd The Bar Method! It's so hard to believe I did 30 min in one go but it was simply great. Pretty tough and at the same time there are so many stretches that it makes it somehow easier than usual. And I really liked its low/no-impact aspect. Well, saying all this I have to add that I can feel some of my muscles today!
I think I'll try to do it 3 x week as Burr Leonard suggests. (I say 'try' as 30 minutes sounds like such a long time, will it be possible with my DH back home? And while on holidays?) I wonder what to integrate in between, any ideas? There is only a tiny bit of upper body section so it seems almost obvious to add some upper body toning, but of course I know nothing about it. Will be really helpful for your help!

Tuesday - cardio: 5 min stationary bike wu + 15 min PN Tae Bo (upper body)

Yeah for you, Carol :D!!! I know cardio should be done second but I just can't convince myself to get into it after weights when I have to do indoor cardio :o. Once I can do some outdoor activities, I'll join you in doing it second !

I have used weights as a warm up but truth be told, I'd rather do a free style warm up first. Then I like to do one set with weights as add'l warm up before moving on to serious weight work.
On the arc trainer, I did four 30 sec bursts and on the bike I did about the same, but the bike finally brought my pulse up to max.
Way to go !!!!!!!

Sounds to me like it's time to invest in another upper body workout ;). In the meantime, there's always things like push ups, tricep dips, bicep curls (you can do these with a plastic jug or can or something similar), planks and overhead presses (ditto the plastic jug & etc). Here (http://exercise.about.com/library/blsamplechest.htm) is a page showing chest exercises. Below these, there are additional links for other upper body exercises. HTH!

I am sooooo proud of you for going beyond your comfort zone and doing something new :D!!!!!!!Thank you! I think it's the implication of reducing insulin resistance that made me want to try it.

The great news is that I took an extra magnesium just before bed and slept seven hours without leg cramps. Usually, HIIT will have me hopping out of bed two or three times a night. They were just starting to feel twitchy when the alarm sounded. :)

The magnesium didn't work quite as well last night, but I really worked the legs. Thirty second bursts of 120 rpm pedaling. Just four of them, but I was surprised how much it took out of me! Plus I added the leg press to the usual mix. Doc said to have the seat more upright than slanted back because I was having back pain from it before. Time will tell.

Rest day today. Have a good one!

Well, I hadn’t exercised for a while. No good excuse or reason why. Just in one of those down, “what’s the point?” moods. Anyway, I decided last week to try to get back into my routine (BTW, isn’t it interesting that it’s difficult to motivate oneself when in that sort of mood, even when we KNOW it’ll make us feel better?)

So, I started again on Thursday (upper body); then Friday (Tae Bo) and Sunday (upper body). Monday should have been a Tae Bo day, but . . . the tape wouldn’t play. It acted like the tape just wouldn’t move, and as if it was at the end, the machine would just turn off. I tried everything I could think of, but no joy. So, in accordance with the mood I was in, I gave up, threw up my hands in defeat and starting eating.

Tuesday I didn’t even try.

I must have been in a better mood yesterday. Before I started messing with the cartridge I went online to see if I could find a replacement. Amazon had used tapes in “good” condition for as little as 98 cents (plus s&h of course). So, I felt safe to experiment. I ended up opening the cartridge and advancing the tape just a bit (it sounds so simple when I put it like that – it actually took over 3 hours from start to finish - darn little springs!). And IT WORKED!

So, yesterday I did Tae Bo.

Today I did Back, Shoulders and Abs with hand weights and resistance bands.

Whew!

Glad you got to dance, Karole! Hopefully that back will soon quit giving you grief. And on the bright side, the more you exercise (with proper form, of course), the stronger that back will get and the less it will aggravate you. I'm not saying it won't aggravate you again - just that the incidents of back pain should be fewer and farther in between :).

Walked along the river walk beside the St Croix river. Not fast, not far, but it was something!

Today is my break from "formal" exercise. We did go shopping today, but the only exercise I get from that is getting in and out of the car - in other words, not much. See ya tomorrow!

Okay-- late checking in today but I did exercise. I did 25 min. on the elliptical and 15 of the pt stretches . Only hurt a little bit--not at all on the elliptical, just the pt. but it was better.
Way to go, Karole :D! Glad that back is almost cooperating again!!!

Got it done earlier today thank goodness. I did 20 min. on the elliptical and 15 min. on the stretches. Hope to get in a bit more later on the elliptical.
Glad to see you're on a roll again, Karole ;)!

That's awesome, Aaron :D :D :D!!!! And don't tell me... you were so tired after all that work you didn't notice you were posting on last week's thread   :p?

You always make me smile, Aaron! And before you get paranoid, it's because I'm enjoying you (not laughing at you) ;).
