Okay gang, we're in a new month now. Let's list some goals and get some focus, okay :)?
What are you hoping to achieve this month? Is it some muscle definition or more endurance or more consistency? What is your goal - and how do you plan to meet it?
My goal for the month is to keep up with the PT and hopefully finally get it over with ;). In the meantime, I'm going to do more endurance for the upper body this month as opposed to strength training. I'll also continue getting in the "cardio" the PT allows - biking and walking (but believe me, IMHO, it's not cardio at all  ). Anyway, I'll do what I'm allowed, how's that :p?
My line up this week:
Sunday - Upper body, abs, PT exercises, bike ride
Monday - PT exercises, 2 separate walks
Tuesday - Upper body, PT exercises
Weds - PT exercises, bike ride
Thursday - Upper body, abs, PT exercises
Now, show me what YOUR line up for the week will be :)!

My plans for exercise include consistency - not skipping a planned day; and developing a routine where I have at least 2, preferably 3, different exercises for each muscle group, and then rotating them. Along the same lines I'm thinking of getting another exercise video, whether Tae Bo or something else, so I'm not doing the same thing every time.
For this week, though:
M W F - Tae Bo and lower body resistance
S Tu Th - Upper body resistance
And, no, I haven't done my Sunday exercises yet (But I will)

Hi, Shadow!
Actually, I have only started my Masters last January 09, but 5 years ago, I did some graduate work to get a non-masters specialty. Still, I can see how it seems I stay in school. I hope in ~ 1.5 years to be finished, Masters in hand, then no more school!
Today, was 30 minutes Callanetics, 20 min Body Flex tape, 15 minutes on the mini-trampoline. Whew! Working up to 30-40 minutes on it.
Thanks so much Shadow, for keeping this forum going.
These days when I think about NOT exercising, I think, "what would Shadow say? ", then I get off my duff and move it!
Have a great day, all.

I had a rest day today.
My plan is to do yoga five days a week. The goal is improved health - managing asthma and back problems, and maintaining strength, mobility and bone density.

Hi, back from the trailride again. We were away 5 days and riding each of those days so lots of vitamin D and exercise too. It was a wonderful ride--the weather could not have been any better than it was.
Now its back to business. So far I have done an upper body workout for 10 min. and lots of house work and laundry and shopping. Things that I just had to get done. I am going to shoot for 20 min. on the elliptical before the afternoon gets away from me.
I'll check in later !!

It's great to be back in the swing of things again, Shadow, vacations are nice but I do miss the routine a bit to keep me legal.
I did only 10 min. on the elliptical this afternoon,,,, but I just took a 15 min. walk outdoors since it was not to terribly hot. Better take advantage of the good weather and do it outside, huh.
Tomorrow I wash the car as it is really dusty from the gravel road we live on. See all of you tomorrow !!

Hi, I did my (fairly) new dvd and it uses the tube thingies for resistance. I did 10 min. lower body and 10 min. abs . It went fast.
I think I'll try for another walk later this afternoon as I doubt Shadow is going to give me any exercise credit for my black berry picking--altho it did require a lot of good stretching to get at some of those big juicy babies.

Hello everybody, I'm officially back to M&S (even if on Tuesday and not on Sunday as I promised:o)! This morning I did 15 min. upper body and 10 min. abs and once again found it so tiring. You are right Shadow, some people never learn!
And yes, this month again is all about consistency and coming back to the habit of exercising with a couple of (almost)new dvds. Plus brisk walking along the beach (we're going to Deauville on Friday morning). I also plan to try a handful of new recipes. See you tomorrow!

Ok Shadow --- if I get extra credit I'm going to go for the Big Three today. The Trifecta . The Triple Crown. I can see it now....
Heck I may take two walks and try for a double triple crown (if you have one laying around somewhere.) If not----just send cash.:D:D

You always know just when I'm about to say "Hey Carol, where are you ?????" Yes, I do! ;) It comes from years of calculating how much you'll put up with, my dear.
Sorry to say that life got in the way tonight. By the time I had time to hit the gym, I was too hungry to NOT eat a meal. Then, of course, I was HOME. :(
Tomorrow afternoon I am going to a party. I don't expect it to last all afternoon, so I'll aim for the gym afterwards. I'll have my bag in the car.
So tired tonight! Can "travel lag" last that long??? I'm heading for bed.
Karole
07-08-2009, 08:31 AM
I think travel lag does last for a few days Carol. I don't know why sitting in a car is so exhausting but it is. Those truck drivers don't have it as easy as I once thought.
I just finished a 10 min. segment of upper body and a 10 min. one on buns and thighs using the resistance tubes. Good workout .
I'm waiting to hear from my dd to see if she wants to walk in town this morning before it gets too hot. She worked all night so she may not want to try it, we'll see. We keep saying we'll do it but so far something has always intervened. If she is too tired I think I will go on and do a walk out here on the county road.

Nothing shabby about that, Martha!!! The fact is you're doing what you can, when you can, rather than just blowing it off. That's HUGE! So give yourself some credit, okay :)?

Well, I would far rather you do it this way than to push a workout without enough fuel - AND a low blood sugar - just to say you got it done :). The quality would have been lacking anyway, so.... there's still time this week to give it a bit more effort and make up some of the lost time .

I had to go it alone this a.m. dd had knee problem and thought she would ice it down rather than walk around and increase her pain. Can't say I blame her for that.
I did 25 min. on the gravel road so have had a really good day so far. For some reason I feel like I have had more energy the last two days than I usually do. Hope it keeps up. I just hate to have to force the exercise and feel like I'm treading through sludge with each step. I like this feeling a lot better.

I couldn't decide what to do today, since I did both upper and lower body yesterday, and I was feeling my arms and shoulders a bit. I ended up with fifteen fast minutes on the arc trainer and ten moderates on the bike.
I was hoping to get in another session tomorrow before we drive up north, but our departure has been moved up. Looks like daily walks from here on. Easy to do on the fairgrounds where I camp at the festival because it's quite large.
I'll be back with a report a week from this Sunday.

Sounds like a great alternative plan, Karole :D!!!! (But with the resistance, you knew I'd be happy, right ;)?)
Well, that's the only reason I do resistance at all Shadow--to keep you happy---you know our old saying:

I've finished my week with a fairly light session, since I wasn't feeling any more lively. I did quite a bit of walking around town in the morning, then just some gentle yoga at home this afternoon.

I did 20 min. of walking outdoors and since I was all warmed up I did 10 min. pt exercises and stretches.
I really am thinking I need to make an app. with the chiro as I am still having those sharp pains in my back. It comes and goes but really stops me in my tracks when they occur. Also I had a lot of pain with my seat bone while riding this past trailride. Something must be out of alignment somewhere.
I'm off for now but I will get some resistance in later today.

Just a quick report as I am in a rush. Yesterday I did my portion of M&S (20 min bike HIIT and then 10 min Quick Fix upper body) but it was a bad idea... It was a day of fast (no food and no drink) from dawn till after dark and I should have known better (I was really thirsty during the day), especially with my Talmud class! We broke the fast at my Talmud Master house at 11.45 pm and he and his wife offered us a lot of cakes and biscuits, a typical sweet way of breaking fast in our community. Fortunately I brought a big bag almonds with me (they were very very popular:paranoid:;)) and I had a lot of still water otherwise it would be really tough to resist. Then, I had some tuna at home. Anyway, today I woke up with a huge headache and I decided to skip today's exercises. Will try to do something on Saturday evening and on Sunday I'm off to Normandy! Have a great weekend, all of you

That sounds like a perfect end to your 5 for the week :D! Sometimes we just gotta change our pace to get it done ;). But the important thing is that you did it !

Oh my, Adina ! I think the next time you need to save the exercise for a day where you can at least drink something! But I'm proud of you for sticking to those nuts, water & tuna !

I think it was the right decision, because I was quite tired this morning after walking, but felt a bit better by the end of the afternoon, and I think stronger exercise would just have increased the tiredness. It's not as if I'm all that keen on exercise, but I do find it frustrating not to be able to do it :(.
How's your PT working, Shadow?

I've got one last post before leaving town (unless more delays come up ). I'm so proud of myself because I got up and went to the gym for one last tour this morning. I did the total body, but nothing extreme. Now it's walking for a week. :tear:
Adina, how brilliant of you to bring the almonds to the breakfast! :)

Sorry, Shadow. This hasn't been my best week. I was sick Thursday and Friday, didn't exercise, even eating was kind of hit or miss. Feel better today, but have been busy getting ready for company. I may get a chance to move some this evening, but, if not, I'll just start in tomorrow with my usual routine.

I think that's just human nature and being told "no" that makes us that way :p! I hate cardio - but I've been very unhappy to not be able to do it all this time
How's your PT working, Shadow?
It was going well and was to last until the end of this month. But lo and behold, I got an insurance statement telling me they quit paying in May so I had to abruptly end the PT sessions. Now I have to get back into the exercise gradually so I can work off the frustration of having medical bills it's gonna take me a year to pay off....
Anyway, hopefully if I pay attention and ease back into it slowly I'll do okay. But you know patience has never been my virture :o. I am not, however, going to do impact cardio until the doctor's office tells me it's okay (which will hopefully happen mid-August at my next appt).
Thanks for asking :)!

Not to worry, Sandy! We all hit speed bumps now and again . Shoot - the last 3 months have been one big speed bump for me :p ! The important thing is that you take care of yourself and get better :).

I'll have to keep a close eye on you so you don't think that just because you're not seeing the PT any more you can resume your normal regime (well, maybe not the cardio ;)).

Well, it surely took your insurance company long enough to get the news to you, didn't it. They ought to have to pay when they are so remiss in things like that. Its sure isn't fair to your pocketbook.
My back isn't playing fair either. It went totally kabonk last night just before I went to bed. Got up from a chair and felt it go. Had a hard time getting to sleep and today I don't walk very far or very upright at all. Monday I will see the chiro for sure. I hate this crap.

Shadow, I have nothing to report, other than a lot of working outside in 90+ degree heat with what feels like 100% humidity. Haven't even played any ball with the boys at work in the past week.
I'm going to search out my Regis and Richard dvds this next week and at least attempt to do some of them.

You know me too well :o... I will admit I was so upset about bills yesterday that I ended up with a long walk and 2 long bike rides for the day... But at least it wasn't high impact :D!

I don't know which upsets me worse - that I never thought to question how long they'd pay OR that the clinic only billed the insurance monthly so I had a month and a half over the limit before I found out... You're right - they should pay, darn it! (They being anyone else but me, of course  )

While I ran through a mental list of wildly exotic pseudonyms, great dog names and the like (lots of cyber pressure you know,) alas his name is Buddy. Ok in my defense, he was a rescue and came with the name. He loves to walk and is more than happy to take one for the team.:)

Ah - but even if the name isn't fancy, it doesn't change his devotion to you. Besides, I'm sure it's quite a good description of your relationship !

I think the attention he gets being with you on that walk helps inspire him to want to get out there, too ;).
