I liked this drug the best of them all...
"A recent study by Dr. Fernando Dimeo and his colleagues at the Department of Sports Medicine, Freie University of Berlin, Germany found that aerobic exercise improved the symptoms of major depression in 8 out of 12 patients within 10 days."
The only downside is it takes effort and of course your health has to be good enough to support exercise. But, we all start where ever we are at... it's just the start that's needed.

I have epilepsy and have been on a large dose of Depakote for about 12 years. I had established a steady adult "set point" weight when I was put on the Depakote, but since then, I constantly weigh about 5 lbs. more. Exercise and PP help me not to gain and also keep my mental attitude up. On the other hand, I remind myself all the time that it is thanks to the meds that I have remained seizure free all these years and can live my life with no restrictions.

While some medicines can be stopped and we can cure ourselves in other ways like diet and exercise, a lot of these medicines like kwe730 mentioned are important for us to live a normal life. I think the only remedy as kwe730 mentioned is to exercise more and fight the weight gain. Plus a little extra exercise could help all of us.

Found that article a good read. It didn't go entirely into the details of antidepressants and weight gain, so I thought this article - Weight gain from Zoloft and Paxil (http://healthlifeandstuff.com/2010/03/paxil-prozac-zoloft-weight-gain/) might be of interest.

Have you looked into the research on very low carb diets and seizures from Johns Hopkins? It does assist some adults in avoiding seizures (as well as weight control).

I'm hoping someone can tell me WHY lithium is making my hubbie gain weight? His thyroid level is OK and his activity level is the same .he also insists he is not eating more !Does anyone know what is the reason for this ?

I've heard a 10 to 15 pound weight gain is common. One thing that affected a sister in law was her thirst level; she increased her soda consumption without even thinking about it and was taking in quite a bit more sugar than she thought. She switched to water for all her drinks, but still had a 10 pound weight gain.

Yes,his doctor told him at the start to drink just water or other sugarless fluids but the pounds have still come on.Maybe now I can get him to eat fewer carbs... the only thing he hasn't wanted to try! Thanks for your comment .
