Okay, gang, it's time to get those booties moving! Are you doing anything different to shake up your routine? Are you challenging yourself or just coasting? Let's get some serious M&S going on this week that we can brag about :D!

Promised myself I'd get a long bike ride in this weekend so today was the day. Didn't really feel like it when I first got up but a promise is a promise!
Unfortunately it was REALLY windy today so the ride was a bit of a slog. 67miles took me 5hr 35min riding time for a total outing time of 6.5 hrs.
I'm ready for my 9 hr nap now....

way to go! Did you take a break, or just keep pushing? When I'm in that situation, I usually stop, then regret it b/c it always seem worse after you've stopped for a break:o and not any closer to home....

Martha,
I took a couple of breaks to give my butt a rest (that's more what gets me than my legs:rolleyes:) and have a couple of snacks. I eat pretty light before a ride like that so small snacks on the way help get me through.
Have you been doing your longer weekend rides?

That's how I usually manage, too, although with the bent it's more just want to change position, not the pain of the upright bike.
This weekend the weather got in the way. The dog and I can walk by the puddles, well I can;) but riding through them is not as much fun. So I'm home and it's just coming up on 7 so I'll report how it works out tonight.
PS, Shadow, "Mmm - think she'd consider it overboard if I rigged her scooter with a constantly honking horn and flashing lights ????" Could we re spin the definition of overboard, just this once?:D

Whoo, got me too !! Yep, we're back and I have finally got the laundry, cleaning, shopping and etc behind me. Thank goodness for that !!
You'll be proud to know dh and I just completed a 40 minute walk in the gorgeous weather. We did have some rain today, but it cooled things off and the walk was super.
I promise to do some resistance tomorrow --how's that??

http://bestsmileys.com/waving/3.gif I did it! I did it! Half hour of stout lifting and fifteen minutes on the arc trainer. Love that thing! I'm probably going to hear from my calves tonight, though. And glutes. I had it on four!

Do you think all this muscle building has been helpful with the recent weight loss you have had?? (I'm sure the Shadow will say yes )
Safe bet, Karole. ;) I'm doing resistance because more muscle burns more fat. My shape has changed a lot since I started, because muscle is more dense, so I looked like I lost weight. I think this is just the scale catching up with the clothes. I've been doing PP for more than four years, so having a whoosh is even more exciting than before. The muscle I'm building doesn't really show, but it's there. My sister told me I look "fit". That was a complement.

I'm baaaaaaak .... to report I did 10 min. upper body with 5 # weights on large ball and then pt stretches for my back. total of 20 min. I tried to do a back exercise while all warmed up but I could feel it and didn't want to push it for the time being. I will see about some gentle ones tomorrow.
Will most likely get a walk in this evening, weather permitting. I'll let you know.

I am a good girl too!;) Started my last week of 'upper body blast' on Sunday (next Sunday I'm starting 'bun blast'.)
Sunday - 30 min Cardio Flex Band Workout + swimming
Mon - 10 min Kickbox Bootcamp Arms + 15 min Pilates Abs & Arms + swimming
Tue - 10 min cardio + 10 min Quick Fix Buns + 5 min stretch + swimming
My sea swimming becomes less and less pleasant because of a huge (?) quantity of seaweed. I really don't like it... But at the same time it doesn't seem right to be at the seaside in summer and don't swim (still, most people on the beach don't:confused:).
My weekend was charged with food. I did quite well during our annual visit to Häagen-Dazs shop but ate much too much on Shabbat (three festive meals). I kept it low carb but it seems that in my case the food quantity matters. All 3 pounds lost with difficulty during summer weeks are back again:crybaby:. And it's not just water retention, I'm afraid. So I have to be patient again.

I wouldn't want to swim in seaweed either - blech! I think I'd opt for the cardio option of brisk walking (maybe w/ hand weights) in the sand which would have the added bonus of leg toning. (And yes, "huge" is correct :) ).

It's a sorry fact of life that as we age, our bodies are less willing to give it up like they did when we were younger. So unfortunately, we have to be even more diligent than ever. I think our bodies figure as we age we should be wiser about our choices and know what causes our downfalls ;)...

Well, it turns out to be my knees that are complaining about overwork today. They're clunking like an old car. Since tonight was to be legwork, I decided to let them recover and I'll do lower body tomorrow. I took some ibu.

sorry to hear, it's bad when knees become the percussion section isn't it?!
Buddy and I have done 2 long loops, 2 nights in a row. I got home later tonight so no bike ride tonight, either. I think Buddy secretly sabotages the bike ride. I think Karole put him up to it... sorta the old, tut tut looks like rain, we better go to walk....

Well, there's just nothing like dodging whip lashes, tongue lashes, and eye lashes (aka long hard cyber stares) to bring out the humor in me !!!
Another thing that just tickles my funnybone no end is all the grunting, sweating, and smelly socks that enhance my daily work out. (Just kidding here cuz I try never to work out that hard!):D
Well, I'm off to go do some actual exercise now. I am going to surprize myself with what I do---no, no I'm not going to surprise myself by working out hard and super sizing my workout-- I just mean I don't know which body part I'm going to "pamper" today.;)

Okay, I'm back and exercize is done. I did 25 min. of my Over 50 dvd very carefully I might add. There are some twisty things I didn't even attempt. Will wait a while for that.
Then I went to the barn and "drove" a wheelbarrow to help my dh muck out the barn stalls. I also did a bit of other light weight work while there, for another 20 min. Earlier this a.m. I weeded the garden since it was so nice and soft. Things came out of the ground very easily. So I have had a pretty good day and there is always the chance I can get dh out on a walk this evening. We'll see.

I'm on the bench again, coach. This time I got to the chiro. He straightened me out and checked the kneecaps but still I can hardly walk. No discomfort unless I take a step.
Is it possible that my three or four minutes of high stepping on the arc trainer stretched ligaments or muscles? That's what it seems like. Really stiff muscles around the knees.

No, I didn't!  In fact I haven't enter the sea since Tuesday, definitely not my cup of tea (even if my DH tries to make me change my mind). Your suggestion of brisk walking with a hand weights in the sand made me sweat. Maybe in autumn, maybe.
As you see I keep back to report on my ups (M&S) and downs (weight). Should do it daily, I know, still working on it!
Wed - 20 min upper body + 5 min stretch
Thu - 15 min cardio (Tea Bo cardio) + 10 min stretch (with band)
Oh dear, Adina, those holidays keep nipping your progress in the bud, don't they ?Yes, maybe I should think about conversion to some religion without holidays? ;) Seriously now, I know it is up to me (and only me) what I eat and how much I eat. Usually it works well, maybe the last trip to Israel was a bit too much (all those yummy veggies and fruit) and I have some trouble with getting back to those 129 lbs (weight before the trip; my sort of 'ideal' weight is 124 lb). At the same time, I see some progress in my lower body and it would be unfair to say that the scale should be the one and only judge. But I am a bit obsessed with numbers, I'm afraid.
See you tomorrow (hopefully)!

Sometimes our version of "ideal" is not what our bodies consider ideal :).

you betcha..although I'm afraid lack of punctuation or too few words may have misrepresented. He's hoping to go in his little doggie trailer so that when we go on long rides, he can go along. It will mean that when we stop, we'll have to picnic or eat at restaurants, outside, but that shouldn't be too much, right? Pictures of Buddy riding, that would be a sight.:D

I'm walking better, although climbing the stair when I got home was a reminder of how far I have yet to go. It's just old muscles doing what they do best. The Geezer was going to bundle me down to the doctor for an MRI at one point. I'm not into this aging stuff!

I'm here! Just pretty late. Early start riding the bike to work, then home late. No chance to get on the interhoobie til now. Pushed a little harder up the hill (hill? hell its a mountain) to work and got there.......1 min faster:confused: Oh well.
Carol are you doing much stretching of the surrounding leg muscles that support your knee? Carefully done with warm muscles (don't try to stretch cold muscles, its like pulling cold taffy) it may help you out. I find mine is much better when I'm stretching properly.
"See" you all tomorrow:)

Hi all, hope everyone feels better today. Yesterday was a bummer later in the day as my neck started hurting and also gave me a headache right up until bedtime.
I am blaming it on my 5# weights and upper body routine that I did. I think I must not have had correct form for some of it.--- Oh, she said sheepishly :o:o....maybe I should have blamed myself instead of the 5# weights.:nod:
Anyway, today is good and I just finished a 29 min. brisk walk. It was sooooo nice outside I just had to get out there. A fine 66 degrees and sunshine to boot ....ummmm. Very nice.

you betcha..although I'm afraid lack of punctuation or too few words may have misrepresented. He's hoping to go in his little doggie trailer so that when we go on long rides, he can go along. It will mean that when we stop, we'll have to picnic or eat at restaurants, outside, but that shouldn't be too much, right? Pictures of Buddy riding, that would be a sight.:D
I think it was the reader's misinterpretation ;). BUT - if ever a dog could do it, I'd vote for it being Buddy  :D!
He might have a point - just think of the added resistance the trailer w/ Buddy in it would give you !

Don't worry about Amy, my dear Shadow. She's off to do some camping and I believe she said "hike all morning and read all afternoon".
Thanks, Carol :D! I suppose one of these days I should wander into some other threads  ;).
I'm walking better, although climbing the stair when I got home was a reminder of how far I have yet to go. It's just old muscles doing what they do best. The Geezer was going to bundle me down to the doctor for an MRI at one point. I'm not into this aging stuff!
I must agree with Art Linkletter on the point of aging . Anyway - I'm glad you're seeing improvement. Slow and steady WILL win the race, my friend :).
Martha, I'd even take a picture of Buddy riding in the doggy cart. How cute!
Me too :D!!!

Ah yes - operator malfunction is easier to believe than that the weights did you wrong ;). Sounds like you need to practice it some more !

Wow, I am thrilled and impressed that you even tried it ! I think that would make for an excellent fall activity !
Well, I don't know where to start... I should work a bit more on my English or on the proofreading of my posts. I wanted to say that the very thought of brisk walking with a hand weights in the sand made me sweat, not that I did it. I'm sorry there is no reason to be thrilled and/or impressed..:o:o Will try this autumn, I promise!!
Sometimes our version of "ideal" is not what our bodies consider ideal :).
Probably you are right, still I keep dreaming...
Seeing progress definitely counts !!!!!!!! Personally, I avoid the scale because it is very fickle and tells so little of the story ;).
Wise of you, Mrs. Shadow! I cannot do that. What's more observing the scale helps me to avoid abusing during the holidays.
Fri - 30 min lower body + 45 min brisk walking (w/o hand weights, promenade by sea)
Have to go, have a great weekend and will try to see you on Sunday!

Karole, I hate to disagree with anybody but it is oh so obvious that those 5# weights are to be blamed!!;):D

Sandy - Where did you get to ?????
I'm here - kind of. I've not been well the last few weeks:(. A GI problem that I thought I had under control (not cured, yet, mind you, but at least under control) reasserted itself, interrupting my nights and making me feel generally unwell and washed out. Had a hard time doing much at all. I'm feeling a bit better now; hope to get back into "moving and shaking," if not today, then tomorrow .
I have been popping in here to check up on everyone else's antics - er, I mean, activities . You guys are all so much fun.:D

!
I never get a break. ;) Except for my foot one time but it wasn't due to exercising so I won't even mention that here. Not at all. Ever.
Okay, I will practice more and be more attentive to my form so I don't mess up my neck again. For sure it does not feel good.

Ah dear Adina, you are so very kind. Thank you for being so sweet and seeing things how they really are. So few of us do you know;);););)
(Huh? Did I hear something that sounds like the swishing of a lash or lashing of a switch?) No , just my imagination at work) Whew! !

Oh - I am sooooo crushed  :crybaby:!!!!!! Here I thought you were so eager for M&S points that you just got right out there and did it. Silly me ....

Don't we all ;).
Wise of you, Mrs. Shadow! I cannot do that. What's more observing the scale helps me to avoid abusing during the holidays.
I have read many here who say the scale - especially daily weighing - keeps them in line. For me, it causes my downfall. If I don't like the number, I get depressed & overeat. If I do like the number, I get nervous about it changing which stress me so I overeat. I'm better off just going by how my clothes fit and how I feel ;).

I'm STILL hoping to one day see that walking with weights, though !

Sandy - I am so very sorry you've not been feeling well :(!!!! You just focus on getting better, okay :)? And in the meantime, just because you're not M&S doesn't mean you shouldn't check in! It's better if you do so we can not only offer our support while you're down, but it also prevents me getting on your case ;)!

And don't any of you worry - even if I don't post, the M&S will be done !

It's the carrying on part I'm worried about ! I would say I'm enjoying the company but... you know what they say about fish, company & etc . Yesterday made day 8 and we still have at least 6 to go. Believe me, if it were MY company, I'd have explained before they came that 2 weeks camping out on my living room floor was not a good idea in the interest of furthering good relations ;).....
