Up and at 'em gang!!!! Let's finish off the month with some serious moving & shaking! I'm watching all of you !

I'm going to do things a little different this week - okay, really different :p . I've been focusing on upper body weights for a couple of months along with slowly getting back into lower body workouts. Now, I'm beginning to struggle with my weights so I'm going to take a SHORT break and just focus on cardio. But instead of just biking and walking like I've been doing all summer, I'm going to start easing back into regular cardio. Then next week I'll be able to come back to my weights even stronger than I was and hopefully be able to continue the regular cardio too  .

Now - what are YOUR plans for the week??????

Karole

My plans for the week: Staying out of trouble with the Shadow!!:D:D

I already posted on the other week but I did 25 min. brisk walk and mucked out to stalls this morning.

I'm gonna change (it up? this isn't food network, right??) and do 30 more min., 4 days, M,W,R,F. That's my plan. I'm going to do something indoors, treadmll, bike on a trainer or something, right after work, to push it along. This happens every year, (about this time,) and I remember that the weather is a factor that I can't control. You/I will be so proud; it only took 50+ years to figure it out.:o:o

It's going to be the second week of my 'Bun Blast' programme. But most of all I'll try to ignore the scale and enjoy toning of my upper and lower body! (I know that somehow:confused: the middle section is forgotten but it will come after coming back to Paris!)
Sunday - 30 min cardio (from Joanna Hall dvd - I was all sweat after that one but it's definitely one of my favourite cardio workouts) and a lot of swimming (no seaweed!!:))

Upper body workout today. Well, just biceps, triceps and shoulders. But at least I got it done.

I'm still walking, but not power walking, about 30 minutes a day.

Doing slow burn once every 5 days and yoga once every 5 days (not on the same days as slow burn but spaced nicely).

I'm going for the usual five days of yoga, varying the content.

My husband's been wandering around humming a song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd_nopTFuZA) that makes me think of Adina's seaside swimming. I don't know the French for Killer Seaweed, but I don't think it is mentioned ;).

Ah yes....the weather. Well, I am officially 49 and still haven't figured it out ....

PS - No, it's not the weather channel ;). I used to watch that but they've just ruined all my favorite shows and shove too much of certain people down my throat. Now, sorry you asked :p ?

At the start of Aug. Shadow, you challenged us to do something different this month... My goal was to get back to weight lifting after several months absence at the gym. (too busy biking and finishing the house) Now that the house is DONE :D and the big party is DONE :D I can't use lack of time as an excuse (not that it ever really was). Today I'm going to ride my bike to the gym (short ride for me, only about 8 miles round trip) and do an upper body workout. You heard right, I'm actually going to do a workout! I probably won't do too much lower body weight lifting until after the charity ride as I will be doing a lot more biking (especially hill climbing interval training) for the next 3 weeks. I need to get in at least three more lengthy bike rides (40 to 50 miles) too, but also rest a bit in the several days prior to the actual ride. It's not a race or anything, there's plenty of time to do the ride, I just want to be as prepared as possible so that Sunday (60 miles Sat. and another 60 Sun.) isn't too painful :o

You ladies here are inspiring with your consistency in exercising, I want to grow up to be just like you! :p

Hmmm - and what day of the week is "R" in your week :D?... :p ?
R=Thursday... I know too many schedule abbreviations, but T was already taken:D
The news for me was something made me come home instead of staying to treadmill, so I have to add W;) to make my goal. I'm glad I did, Buddy wasn't quite right. He was lethargic, didn't greet me, so we have a 24 hr Vet, that I like, a lot. I took him in, but no results yet. Keep him quiet, no stairs, plenty of rest.. (he's a terrier, that's gonna be tough.) Sorry Karole, you may have to do a Buddy lap;)

Martha I hope Buddy is doing better.

I didn't end up riding to the gym, the weather is changing a bit, a storm coming on, so I drove. But I did go and do an upper body workout and some stretching. Strange to be in the gym after several months off, I didn't even recognize any of the staff. There's been quite a bit of turnover there in the last while, I'm not even sure I'll stay at that gym. I was very disappointed when they "laid off" the manager because she "didn't fit" the image they're trying to present, ie: she was a little bit overweight. Exercised like crazy (maybe too much) training for a triathalon, so she was really quite fit. The whole image thing pissed me off to be quite honest, I really liked Mel and she was a good manager. Anyway I'm sure I'll be nice and stiff tomorrow. If the weathers good I'll ride to work.

Definitely not the kind of attitude you want in a training facility ! Obviously those bozos are sorely under-educated about what constitutes healthy and fit!

Hopefully it will work out soon.Well I worked it out (at about 4AM) but it's very painful to walk on when it's out. I wish I knew where to put the crazy glue! ;)

I'll go easy tonight, maybe just the arc trainer on low. Upper body workout was great, leaving me just a little sore today. Also saw a couple of old friends who were wowing about my body change over the summer. A little embarrassing, but fun.

I'm up to date for this week, though I really haven't been feeling like it. I've had a small cold, and am driving myself round the bend trying to work out whether various symptoms are cold, allergy, asthma or side effect from asthma inhalers . It's not that any of them is particularly bad, just that I resent it when my body doesn't work properly, and at the very least, I like to know what's going on, so I can have some sort of illusion of control .

When my sister was having her 8th or 9th knee surgery (she's had 11 on one knee alone), her roommate swore by spraying his joints every morning with WD40... BTW, have you checked into or heard about Hyalgan (TM) injections?

BTW, have you checked into or heard about Hyalgan (TM) injections? I've heard of people who say WD40 makes their knees feel better. What I've heard about the injections (is this the one that's supposed to coat the bones like cartilage?) is that they don't last long. I'm not ready for a knee replacement yet, either, stubborn old thing that I am. :paranoid:

Today was just fine; twenty minutes on the arc trainer at a decorous pace and some thigh work. I wanted to work the muscles that got all huffy when I was hobbling.

Hmmm - bummer. I was given info on it to consider for my hips since it doesn't have the negative side effects that cortizone has.

No more 'La mer' (Mitra, my DH and I sing the very song every time we arrive at the seaside, but probably most French people do;)), at least for some weeks. Sounds like everyone is having a pretty good week, especially now that Buddy is feeling better. :)

Karole, resistance to resistance is futile....

50 mile bike ride today. It was a gorgeous day, not too hot, nice breeze off the water, fabulous view of the coastal mountains on the main land...

I live on the east coast of Vancouver Island in BC and you'd be very hard pressed to find a more amazing place to ride. Or hike, or boat, or ski...:D
Days like today just remind me how lucky I am to be here and able to do some of those things. (skiing's out, knees can't take it)

I'll try not to get too wishy washy or philisophical here (just the mood I seem to be in ) but would like to remind you all to appreciate what you have, the things you enjoy doing and your loved ones, and be proud that you are making great efforts to lead healthy, happy lives.

I'm going to shower up (pretty sweaty day after all) and enjoy a peaceful dinner with the hubby and maybe even a glass of wine.

I did upper body resistance today. It was a pleasant day today - not too hot or too cool. Hope it stays this way for awhile.

Martha I hope Buddy is doing better.

I'm not even sure I'll stay at that gym.

He seems fine, man what some dogs will do to get attention.

Have you had any other thoughts about the gym? That was my (secret) plan this week but it didn't work out for various reasons. I'm afraid the kind of behavior you are speaking of isn't unique to that gym. It seems more and more I'm hearing that businesses are so sure that it's THAT person that is causing the failure/it to not be profitable/ must find someone who fits the image...

You may have to host a benefit low carb ride so we can all enjoy the beauty you have and get some others to go along with the riding. Actually we want to be like you..."I rode 50...it was beautiful....get another ride in, so we can do 60 Sat..."yeah that's what I want, to grow up to be just like you.

We didn't get out tonight, the weather didn't cooperate but I have a large fenced yard so between squalls, Buddy was able to go out. I had my usual 40min walk with the back and forth from parking to lunch/work.

Huh?? Did you say resistance--

Funny you should mention that......I really thought about doing some this afternoon, but then I remembered I have line dancing tonight so I am going to put it off til tomorrow, okay??

Upper body tonight, plus fifteen minutes on the arc trainer. I'm back to a five-day work week :crybaby: and I'll be at the gym again tomorrow night, so I didn't double up with lower bod.

Ok that kind of resistance is good, but I hold by what I said to Karole,
"resistance to resistance (ie training) is futile"......

Martha thankyou for the encouragement. I would love to host a LC bike ride up here and have you all participate! :D Glad Buddy is feeling better, can't blame him for not wanting to go out in the rain...

In honor of you all, tomorrow I will ride 30 miles or so before going to my friends wedding and blowing my entire days quota of carbs on booze

50 mile bike ride today. It was a gorgeous day, not too hot, nice breeze off the water, fabulous view of the coastal mountains on the main land...
Sounds awesome :D! Especially having such a wonderful view !

Days like today just remind me how lucky I am to be here and able to do some of those things. (skiing's out, knees can't take it)
I think it's fantastic you have so many options - even if you can't enjoy every option there is :).

I'll try not to get too wishy washy or philisophical here (just the mood I seem to be in ) but would like to remind you all to appreciate what you have, the things you enjoy doing and your loved ones, and be proud that you are making great efforts to lead healthy, happy lives.
I think that's always an appropriate reminder, Jilly ! I know for all the humps and bumps in the road, I am truly blessed - and I try to appreciate that every single day.

As promised I report on my morning workout:

Fri - cardio (10 min) + lower body workout (30 min)

I'll try to do something tomorrow evening, maybe 10 minute stretch or some biking (to make up for Thursday off). Will tell you more about it on Sunday, I have to run now. Have a great weekend, all of you!

Did Tae Bo this morning. Had just started to meditate when DH came home a bit earlier than I expected. Poor guy, he has a terrible sinus infection that's affecting his ears therefore his equilibrium. He seems okay to drive, but can't stand long enough to take a shower. He saw the dr yesterday and is on antibiotics, so hopefully will be better soon.

Okay gang, in 2 hours, I am on vacation. Now, don't get excited - I will be checking up on all of you - especially Karole ;). BUT... you just never know when I will appear .

So behave yourselves and get that M&Sing done. I'll be rested from time off and able to flog you even harder if you misbehave :slywink:!

And just so no one (like Karole) thinks I am misbehaving, I will be doing resistance next week - 4 or 5 days of it, in fact . And of course, I'll get my cardio in via walking and biking since I'm still restricted on that .

But I will be M&S and I fully expect all of you to continue, too!

I really try to like resistance ...really really try. to. like. it.

Have you given Slow Burn a try? It only takes 30 minutes and once a week is even enough according to the plan. Can you do resistance for 30 short minutes a week and then be done with it for another 7 days? Would that work for you? I don't like resistance much either but do the slow burn and I am seeing results for very little time put into it.

Issy, I bought the book, the metronome thingy and a timer. Then tried to do the routine on several occasions. I got very dizzy and naseous each time so I quit it. Still have all that gear so I may try it again. It has been a couple of years since I used it and maybe I am fitter now. I would love to have only once or twice a week of it (resistance) , so Shadow would give me full credit and I could walk , walk, walk on the other days. And line dance too of course.

Has anyone else had trouble with dizziness while doing Slow Burn? I would love an explanation of my episodes with it. (Shadow will probably just say I'm already dizzy so no change there):D:tear::slywink:

I've never done SB but when I am lifting slow and heavy, I can get quite dizzy when I don't breathe - or breathe correctly. Remember, form is everything, and that includes proper breathing :).

I don't have trouble with dizzyness, but I am exhausted when I finish and literally have to lay down for at least a half hour. I try a light protein boost about an hour before it (nothing heavy) and I make it a thing to eat more protein than my minimum on the days that I do it. I figure all that working of the muscles makes me need it. I like to have a half a cup of cottage cheese or 1/2 cup of fage (Greek yogurt) an hour or so before it and then eat dinner about an hour after it.

If you get dizzy I guess you could rest a bit in between routines or perhaps start off slowly and work your way up to the failure point, maybe stop a rep or two before it and then get to the point you can go to failure. Maybe that woul work???

And what Shadow said about breathing is good. BREATHE!!!!! :) Or else you will turn !!! And that just isn't attractive no matter how fit you are!

Oh, I'm doing 30 minutes of step aerobics tonight (in a couple of hours as I just ate dinner), just bought it after work. I did about an hour of walking, had a lot of meetings etc... to go to today. I actually do most of my walking during the work day as my building is out farther than the rest, from home office.

The important thing here is "before going on" you kept going and that's great! :D

I had company coming over tonight for dinner so had to keep my ride short, only had 2 hours. Did 25 miles, pushed harder than usual to get it done in 2 hours. Would like to do 30 miles tomorrow, but a fair bit of wine was consumed tonight....

thanks, but right back at ya; I let it go for a week or so and pushing a little harder to get (the 30mi) in couple of hours isn't happening, yet. The good news is my kid, did the same ride separately, yesterday. When I told him what happened, he said, yeah, I know that one well and "I'm kicking myself for letting the last week get away; the last time I rode, (before yesterday,) I wasn't even breathing hard, at the top" I said, "here here" woulda coulda shoulda:o
