I wanted to maek sure I got a new thread up and going so anyone who is antsy to report their workouts can jump right in ;). Hopefully there will be quite a few of you this applies to!
This week my plan is:
S - Standing legs; bike ride
M - Chest/triceps; walk
Tu - Floor legs/core; bike ride
W - Back/biceps/shoulders; walk
Th - Core work; Walk
Now... what are all of YOU up to this week :suspicious:?

Monday: Upper body, cardio
Tuesday: Lower body, cardio
Thursday: Upper body, cardio
Friday: Upper body, cardio
Gosh, that sounds boring! But it's not! The cardio is a loose term for arc trainer, treadmill or bike. Just to keep the knees moving, actually.
Today I had to carry my guitar (in original heavy case), mandolin, folding chair, two posters and a shoulder bag to the second floor of a retirement home. I was opening doors with my extra finger and maneuvering through hallways. Luckily, it was not a problem because my muscles are in good shape. Practical application! :D

Very nice practical/functional application Carol! That ought to please the Shadow. :)
Today off again due to knee issues/swelling. :(
Sun: bike ride, upper body weight workout
Mon: rest
Tues: bike to work hopefully (bought new lights)
Wed: lower body weight WO (more careful with knee)
Thur: biking and/or upper body
Fri: to soon to tell
This schedule is open to some changes though depending on work. Sometimes I don't get called to work until the morning so biking in isn't possible, and if I work late I'm usually just too tired to workout. My job is fairly physical. :)

You just can't push knees, can you? If you do you it takes longer for them to come back. :peeved:

Well, Karole, (her stable,):) and Jilly (wants a new 2nd bike);) can share the inspiration, I've added another to our stable. It is a Catrike Villager 27 (catrike.com) It was a ton of fun today, but I'm exhausted. You'd think a low bent trike is a low bent trike; a recumbent bike is a recumbent bike but you'd (and I'd) be wrong. My son rides the terratrike tour, almost exclusively now. I'll probably switch back and forth some, (between a Rans Stratus and the new trike.) I need to develop the different pull/push strategies, the bottom bracket is higher so it's just different. I think Buddy will enjoy this on the flat parts b/c its so low, but we'll see, we've not ruled out the "Burley like" modification but anything that keeps me moving, I'm for it. Quick question, I'm having some difficulty getting up and out of the bike after my legs are toast. It shouldn't be difficult but are there different muscle groups that I could isolate. Silly me, I thought legs wouldn't be a problem. Sorry with all the talk about the 6W I probably should have asked in the challenge section, but, well, you know me; and it's likely the Shadow and the followers of Shadow, resistance that will be my answer:D

Wow, Martha. it sounds like you are going to be keeping yourself busy, busy, busy. Congrats on your new "thingey" (I'm not sure exactly what it is---but if you and Buddy are happy, I'm happy!):nod::nod:
I just finished my workout --did my new 15 min. total body work out and Shadow will be glad to know it makes me work hard enough to sweat big time--unlike some of the routines I do. I feel good tho--just need to go hit the shower !:nod::nod::nod:

Today off again due to knee issues/swelling.
I realize you likely have a bike that doesn't hurt you knees like some would, but have you tried different things (like ellipticals or swimming) to make sure you're not exacerbating the knees due to overuse injuries? Just a thought :).
Wed: lower body weight WO (more careful with knee)
Good plan. It might be a good time to do some old-fashioned floor work ;).

Quick question, I'm having some difficulty getting up and out of the bike after my legs are toast. It shouldn't be difficult but are there different muscle groups that I could isolate. Silly me, I thought legs wouldn't be a problem.
I think you're just strengthening some different muscles, Martha, and it's just going to take a little bit of time and patience to get them where they need to be :). It sounds like you're using more hamstrings to get up off of this whereas a lot of bikes focus more on strengthening the quads. However, since I don't know for sure what you're using and haven't tried any of them, that's just a rough guess based on general bike riding and your description ;). As for something you could do - just practice, practice, practice until those muscles are stronger. And make sure to keep alternating different bikes so different muscles get the focus.
Course, if it were me, I'd just do weights to strengthen all the lower body and forget the bike  :p!
Sorry with all the talk about the 6W I probably should have asked in the challenge section, but, well, you know me; and it's likely the Shadow and the followers of Shadow, resistance that will be my answer:D

That's real progress! And it's made me realise I've been so preoccupied with breathing that I hardly noticed how well my back has been recently. There have been a few occasions when I've done carrying/lifting/standing that would have caused a lot of trouble a couple of years ago .

1. That's what I hoped it would be, practice practice but if all else fails, then I may need to move to weights, which is what I was kinda sure would be the answers, but if I did weights??? where/how would I use them to work standing from a supported squat, (for lack of a more elegant description?)
2. Thanks, I hoped you would say that, not that you would know from my posts but except for the whip, it is pretty safe here.
It's raining with frequent lightning, so an evening ride may not be in the forecas:ot so slow burn it may have to be.

Biking is usually not a problem for my knees, although I do feel them a bit on the really long rides. But then on the really long rides everything gets a bit sore. :o I have an elliptical that I use in the winter/crap weather, like to be outside when the weather behaves. I've thought about swimming.... but I just sink. :( I may give aquacize a try though, shallow end of course.
Floor work, proprioception exercises and perhaps some stability ball stuff is definitely on the list for the next LB WO.
Did upper body as planned today, now I'm heading outside to mow the lawn.

As you say the new bike position probably requires slightly different muscles to get in and out. The practice thing is most likely to help. How about just getting in and out repeatedly, without actually going for a ride so your legs aren't exhausted to start, to get those muscles trained? It would be a very functional workout, just what we were talking about here earlier.

There are always hover squats which start with you sitting then raising up to 45º and holding. And there are several variations on that move, too.

Hello everybody, I'm glad to see that you are doing well. I'm sorry to tell that I didn't do any workout on Friday:o.
Yesterday, however, I did brisk walking with my DH and it was amazing; the weather was great and I really needed some cardio after Saturday's holiday dinner. Today I have done 20 min. pilates and I was very careful about my form (thank you Shadow for your remarks, I absolutely agree with you that the form is crucial).
Tomorrow, as I start my classes in the morning, I'll have to divide the workout in three 10 minute parts and do it throughout the day. Will report it in the evening.
Karole, my Amy Bento's 10 Minute Solution dvd has different chapters: 1. Arm & Shoulder Sculp, 2. Butt & Thigh Blaster, 3. Sleek & Sexy Abs (looks like the same one:p), 4. Total Body Tone Zone, 5. 10 Minute Stretch. It seems that in European version stretch is not neglected!

Having rested my left knee over the weekend, I walked to the local shops yesterday, and didn't have any discomfort, beyond getting too hot. I can't go out today as I have to wait in for a parcel for my son, but I shall have a gentle static cycle ride to start to get me moving again.

I should be able to get a ride in after work.
Knee is still buggered. Had to wear my brace to work yesterday and today, very frustrating. And having my brace on for 10 hours gets a bit uncomfortable...

I've decided to ride it out for the week, keep to eating well and get my head together on the weekend.

Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves is take a break and regroup . Take the time and focus on your goals and what you want to accomplish. The body won't fall apart in one week, trust me ;).

Hey Mitra - where are you :suspicious:????
Isis - You haven't forgotten us, have you ????
Martha - Are you and Buddy taking the walk of the century ????

Hey Mitra - where are you :suspicious:????
I'm dealing with a houseful of adolescents . My back's protesting a bit from standing cooking too long, but I don't think I've done any lasting damage. With limited time, I'm concentrating on maintenance this week!

Again?????? Does the company never end?????

I would hope not!

Sounds good - and may "the force" be with you (whatever force you may need to survive this week ;) )!

It sometimes feels as if it doesn't! They're here until Sunday, then we don't have any more arranged. A few quiet weeks would be nice...

I was feeling much better today, so had no problem getting in my upper body exercises. I'm really feeling the results of the chest press and fly!

well, no, Mike has had Buddy walk/play time, Tues and Wed. I did about 50 min Tues and Wed 4 round trips from remote parking to my office and got home too late both nights, argg.
My new toy just waiting patiently in the garage, tonight I'm home on time and it's raining, rain that I couldn't see to driving home, so I'm guessing no one would be able to see me on my Catrike...double argggg

A few quiet weeks would be nice...You could always let them do the cooking! :)
I'm really feeling the results of the chest press and fly!Good job, Sandy! Isn't it great?
I did that myself tonight, plus a few other upper body things, followed by fifteen minutes at a sedate pace on the arc trainer.

I've been telling a few people around here how important it is to look at this from a 'changing the rest of my life' point of view and not stress or beat themselves up over a couple days binge or missing exercise. As long as you don't let it get out of hand, in the big picture a few days here and there is pretty insignificant. Time to take my own advice.:p

Just thought I'd better report for yesterday as we are going to visit the eye doc today and that will be an all day affair--distance and time for other shopping as well)
Anyway we had a very lively hour and 45 min. line dancing session last night and I really enjoyed it. We are doing a demo for an hour on Sat. at our "Pioneer Days" celebration so we were busy practicing those routines last night.

Morning!
I thought I had better poke my nose around the door before my absence is noted. I finally got my copy of PP a few days ago and I am busy reading and calculating my needs. Right now my head is in a spin with trying to do too many things at once. I am going to concentrate on getting my food right until we come back from holiday. In the meantime I am making an effort to move more generally, but I am not going to get stressed worrying about resistance just yet.

Good plan ;)! You didn't get called out because you did manage to make it here once this week - but that's the only reason!
I finally got my copy of PP a few days ago and I am busy reading and calculating my needs. Right now my head is in a spin with trying to do too many things at once.
No spinning heads allowed ! Stressing over it all is definitely NOT a good thing :).
I am going to concentrate on getting my food right until we come back from holiday.
Wise choice :D! The eating part is what is most important !
In the meantime I am making an effort to move more generally, but I am not going to get stressed worrying about resistance just yet.
Sounds like a plan !

Funny, but even when I don't have much enthusiasm I end up enjoying my workout! Lower body today. :)

Almost forgot to post . . . actually I couldn't remember if I had already.
Anyway, did Tae Bo and leg exercises today. Carol, I know just what you mean about lacking enthusiasm to start but then gettin' in the groove, and really enjoying the workout. It's that initial reluctance that is sometimes difficult to overcome.

That's when it's good to have a routine. I just follow the same route around the gym, like an old cart horse. Hmmmm. That might be a sign to start mixing it up again! :suspicious:

Karole, did you dance the whole hour? I'll just bet you really needed those glasses of water! ;)

No, I didn't do the whole hour -- I didn't feel up to the last three dances, and afterward I decided I must have gotten a bit dehydrated as I felt a lot better after all that water !!

Have just been to the supermarket with DH. We parked on the furthest side of the car park so had quite a walk to and from the car, as well as around the supermarket itself. This might not sound like much, but considering that I havn't left the house most days during the summer, even short walks are a major improvement.
