I'm 77, a believer in "low carb", lost 40 # with the Maffetone diet, had by-
pass surgery 6 months ago. Bought the Protein Power and 6 Weeks Cure books. I take aspirin and simvastatin 20 mg.
Very shakey on what to do or not to do on the actual diet and with this forum.
I d:confused:on't know what to do with this forum???? jerryb.

Welcome Jerry :)
The simple answer to your question is ... ask questions!;) Anything you are not sure of or 'shakey' on ... ask. You can bet we all have been where you are now at some point - well probably behind where you are since you are already on a lowish carb diet? (I had to look up Maffetone)
The best thing would be to tell us a bit more about you - for example, do you still have a significant amount of weight to lose? - and some idea of what you would like to achieve health and weight wise.
Are you taking any supplements? (Fish/krill oil would be complimentary to your meds, as would CoQ10).
We are here to help.

Hi, Jerry!
If you poke around the forum you will find topics that have been or are being discussed that will interest you. We have a journal section where you can post your thoughts and other members will stop in and visit.
You can also ask your questions right here as they come up! It would be nice to know a little more about you, too. As Malcolm said, we're here to help. :)

Thanks all. I'm 77, a year or two ago I was 195#, got it down to 170# with Phillip
Maffetone diet but then heart by-pass surgery (arteriosclerosis) intervened. Since the surgery I lost another 15# with rehab and mostly a lo fat diet. My waist was 50", now its 44" but as a boy it was 30!" So, I want to lose the belly and regain muscle but a bit scared how to do it.

Despite what most of the medical profession spouts these days, a low-fat diet probably isn't doing your heart much good. Losing weight on a low-fat diet is also a recipe for gallstones, while losing weight on a high-fat diet seems to protect against gallstones. (Ironic, considering that a low-fat diet is exactly what doctors tend to recommend for people who have developed gallstones. Such a diet tends to eliminate the pain, but at the price of increasing the accumulation of stones.)
If you're really interested in trimming your waist and gaining muscle, the 6WC is probably your best bet. Combined with exercise, it's the best thing I've seen for losing belly fat while gaining muscle (although it may not be the fastest way to lose weight--after all, gaining muscle increases weight).
There is a long, long thread (http://www.proteinpower.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7401)on the 6WC elsewhere in this forum.

Are you saying, Bear, that the 6WC could result in an increase risk of gall stones?

Roadstr,
Your logic fails to track.
6WC is not a low fat diet. It is a low carb diet with periods of very moderate caloric restriction (the shake phase).
S Bear notes that low fat diets are gall stone inducing. That low carb diets are somewhat protective.
