Where is your compass pointing? Are you looking for a low-carb Thanksgiving? New clothes? More “on” days than “off” days? If you don’t have a direction picked out, you can wander quite far off your track without realizing it. Once you know where you're going, every step leads that way.
My Thanksgiving will be the same as it’s always been, so I’ve got a plan. Mom has stopped offering me pie, thank goodness! My goal is simply to maintain the health benefits I’ve found. I keep track by measuring my blood sugar, which is directly related to carb intake. I write it down in a log book.
Breakfast will be a protein shake. Lunch will be the end of the roast beef (‘bout time!) Dinner will be old dead chicken. ;)

Magnetic North ... where it should be. ;-)
Had a great game last night followed by an odd, huge salad with a chicken breast. There must have been a whole head of lettuce with a few extras for coloring. I gave up shortly after the meat since I was feeling like a horse.
Down 4 pounds (beginner's whoosh) and it ain't coming back.

Thanksgiving will be day 2 of week 5 of my 6 weeks. Since I'm not sure at this point what I'll be doing for week 5 (the actual 5/6 of the book or repeating a shake week) I can't predict too much.
They already make a SF sweetpotato thing and SF/crustless pie, so while not strictly LC it's not as bad as it could be. We bring green beans (not the traditional cassarole though) and of course turkey is allowable. It's usually lunch with any leftovers as dinner (sandwiches).
I'm contemplating doing shakes and the 1 meal for that day even if that meal isn't as prescribed in the book just to simplify things.
As for today...3 shakes (and I need to get to the store nearly out of cream) and leftover quiche as my lunch.

In the past what has thrown me off at Thanksgiving time was the hot homemade yeast rolls.:thumbsdown::(
This year I will be more prepared as I have discovered Dana Carpenters low carb bread recipes and will be sure to make some rolls that will fit in with my woe.:o
I think one thing that has kept me on the (mostly) straight and narrow are the health issues -- don't get me wrong, weight loss was the driving force at first---but by losing weight I found I felt better, I got to lose 2 blood pressure meds, and my lipid panel is now great. I do not want to mess that up for any reason, so my compass must point straight ahead in the way I have found so successful in the past.
I might get lost in the woods, but lucky for me I found my way here.:nod:

The direction I need to be going in is one that will provide consistency in my eating and exercising. My goal? Thinner yes, but stronger is very important to me. I didn't start out (that I know of ) with health issues other than my pretty much destroyed knees. Trying to get some weight off to give them a break. Stronger supporting leg muscles will also help my knees.
Thanksgiving is done for me, no issues there. :p
B: hb eggs, smokie and tea
L: pros. w/cheese, mushroom soup, cauli and dip
S: smokie and cheese (if I need it, depends how long work is today)
D: salmon and salad

I'm going to try to follow the same plan as last year at Thanksgiving. Load up on turkey and all the LC offerings but take a small portion of some of the carby things. It's off plan but I'm not giving myself free reign either. Minus the diet soda this year though.
Today
B: Sausage/eggs w/ cheese
L: Atkins shake, carbmaster yogurt, string cheese
D: Leftover pulled pork
Hi Carol,
I would like to change the title of my personal journal to something much more positive. Something like "the old man finally got his fat belly (I would say ass but I don't have any) up and moving" or just "Monty's movin' and losing"
Is this possible???

Monty, one of us can easily change the title of your journal - just let us know what you'd like it to be.

My compass is pointing to the "prize". Better blood numbers and yes, a smaller size. It takes so long (it seems) for the scale to move in between losses. So my constant thought is "what if I choose to eat poorly just before my body has decided to drop a pound or two"? Yikes! I won't get that loss! It pretty much keeps me on the straight and narrow.
Having said all that, though, I have made a decision to eat a few bites of non plan food on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Not the days leading up to the holidays or for days after, just those two days and for the one meal only. I plan to incorporate protein shakes and keep my eye on the protein so that I'm not starving when I have those bites. That's the plan and I'm sticking to it.
I caught my son's cold and it's a doozy. I'm going to make it simple on myself today and have mostly protein shakes. I just want to curl up on the couch and cuddle with my dog...

The compass will be pointing in the same direction I am traveling right now. Staying on plan on a day to day basis. Thanksgiving dinner will offer many LC choices. Portion size of each choice will be such that I can have a sampling of many offered and still stay on plan. This is the way I handle all the holidays that revolve around eating and large meal.

Hey Karole...while I was home last weekend my mother asked me to make those hot homemade yeast rolls.
She wanted to "pass on the recipe"...
I said, if I learn how to make them, do I inherit the bowl you make them in?
She said yes...I said okay.
I made them....and ate them for breakfast that day (no real food, just the rolls:mad:)...then put them away in the freezer.
I hope that is the last time I ever have to "taste" them again.
I just want the bowl...I REALLY want the bowl...
But is it worth making my belly the SIZE of the bowl??
It's a little larger than this bowl.

Hi, everybody! What a great conversation we've got going here! Sanity rules. :)
Amy, I've got a huge, wonderful crock bowl that only reigns over my kitchen from a high shelf. I never use it any more, but I would never get rid of it. Definitely not worth growing a belly to match. :D
Becca don't worry about straying from the "prescribed" meals. I never follow recipes and I just ate my usual lc meat and veggies throughout. Thanksgiving should fit right in.
Somebody brought in bagels today and they're right across the hall from my office so I can smell them. Funny thing is they aren't calling my name! I just classify the aroma and ignore them. I love this!

Hope you get the bowl Ammy !! ( Maybe next time your Mom wants to pass on a recipe you will "pass" on eating it. ):D
Boy, I know how home made rolls call to me --so good to eat, so bad to feel for the next day or two, both physically and mentally.:(:tear:

Today was a bummer as I have some type of stomach virus and have not felt like doing anything . We were supposed to start our waltz lessons tonight and I don't even feel like doing that. I might spread whatever I have so would stay home regardless. Dh has this too only he started a day earlier than I did.
I'm so disappointed about missing the waltz lesson as it took a while for me to talk him into it !

A rough day out with a possible flu, getting snow tires and having several tasks. I did not get one meal at home so the carbs are higher but teh cals were way down so hopefully I keep the weight down.
I am having a weights workout tonight the The Sarah Conner Chronicles and an early to bed.

Not much to report, had my 3 shakes and my warmed up quiche for lunch. Been hungry this evening and am getting a headache, hopefully one I can sleep off as it's not too bad yet.
1 week down and I haven't slipped up yet.

Ate as planned, skipped the snack. Trying to think up something for dinner tomorrow night. I'll be going to the gym after work so it has to be something I can throw together quickly as no doubt I'll be starving by the time I get home.

Becca, if you're hungry, increase your fat a bit. Congrats on the good week! :)

Yes, impending starvation often changes my dinner plans. ;) Sometimes to the point of stopping for a salad-to-go on my way home!
late again-
protein 129
ecc 24
walk= 1.5 miles
did a 20-25 minutes wts and calisthenics with both upper and lower body.
the LB is definitely more demanding.
I am amazed at how little activity I have been doing since mid summer (we live in a beach resort and people like to vacation with us on the cheap:D even if they don't like us). oh well, back at it now.
