Would someone please give suggestions for good protein sources for quick protein input for a diabetic who needs lower sodium and lower sugar foods: I've come up with peanut butter, yogurt and egg white protein powder; I just cannot get soy thru my head as a safe food source but I may have to chance it with low sodium chicken broth? Thank you! Mike-S

You seemed to have missed meat, cheese and low carb nuts (in this case 'meat' includes fish and eggs).

Peanut butter is fairly high carb - if you are looking for something similar you may be able to find, or make your own almond butter for substantially less carbs. Also note most commercial peanut butter in your country especially contains added sugar.

I am curious about your low sodium diet, I assume this is a suggestion from your doctor for blood pressure reasons? has he/she tested you to see whether or not you are sodium/salt sensitive? If not you may be avoiding salt for no reason. Of the top of my head I think the percentage of the population that gets a significant advanntage from sodium restriction is less than 10%. You should also be aware just the adoption of a low carb diet is likely to cut your salt intake (from processed foods you no lobger eat) quite a bit. On top of that, a low carb diet in itself has a blood pressure lowering effect for most people - if you haven't already done so I recommend you read at least one of the Eades books (PPLP for preference) which will explain the how as well as the why.

I eat mostly chicken and fish but I need a quick snack food that is a good source of protein. I guess I could even snack on chicken.

The lower sodium I mentioned is for my congestive heart failure and dilated cardiomyopathy problems; I have found that I need to limit sodium to less than 2000mg daily or one of my meds doesn't work correctly. My bp is fine with the meds I am taking. Thank you very much! Mike-S

Why not hard boiled eggs?
