Good morning and Happy Friday! No, we're not going to discuss exercise today (unless you want to, of course ;)). I've noticed that even though I have a plan for eating, circumstances often cause me to change it during the day. When we're new to Protein Power, that can be a pitfall, but as we get more experience it's usually a non-event. Do you keep essential ingredients for low carb meals that can take you through schedule changes without a hitch? What are your go-to foods?

My breakfast will be a protein shake. Lunch will be pork sausage, maybe on a flatout wrap. Dinner will be roast chicken and vegetables. Almonds and/or Lindt 85% for a snack

It's going to be an interesting day at work because part of the accounting system will be undergoing an update and I don't know what I'll be able to access. I may be catching up on my filing today!

In our household, Doy and I only have those foods that are low carb compatible. Doy is not following any particular LC program but she does watch her carbs due to being diabetic.
If I had to name a fallback food for quick meal changes it would have to be eggs. Eggs are high in protein and very versatile. Add veggies and cheese you have either an omelet, quiche or frittata depending on cooking method. Chopped hb'd eggs with mayo, celery, dill pickles and mustard mixed up is a great topper for a bed of lettuce. And that's only a few uses of many. Yep I'd have to say eggs.

Are you superstitious? I'm not, but some have a lot of phobias about Friday the 13th

I got my exercise in before breakfast this morning. Using my standard routine as follows:

30 minutes leg work on the pedaling machine.
15 minute warmup on the pedaler for the upper body.
1 set 15 reps of bicep curls, tricep extensions, front deltoid raises, side deltoid raises, wrist curls, bench press and butterflies using five pounds.
10 minute upper body cool down on the pedaler.

Breakfast- 1/2c cottage cheese, 7 breakfast sausage links, 47gms strawberries. 2c green tea.
40gms protein, 9gms carbs

Lunch- Salad, (2c roughly chopped romaine; 1/2 med avocado, cubed; 1/4c cubed cucumber; 1/8c chopped onion; 1 boiled egg, quartered lengthwise; 1 slice crumbled bacon; 5ozs shredded chicken breast; 2T bleu cheese dressing. 2c green tea. 43gms protein, 9gms carbs

Supper- 6oz grilled sirloin pork chop, 10 grilled asparagus spears, 1/2 med grilled peach, 2c green tea.
42gms protein, 8gms carbs.

"Do you keep essential ingredients for low carb meals that can take you through schedule changes without a hitch? What are your go-to foods?"

My wife keeps a few things for guests (sugar, flour, regular pasta) but pretty well everything else would fit in a low carb home. My favorites are red meat and like Bill, eggs. My wife succumbs easily to evening temptations (of the food kind) and there are occaisional treats which I bypass most of the time.

Yesterday:
A few pieces of higher carb fruit, 8 ounces of hambuger, 1 bottle of Buckleys (sugar free) and then I had a bowl of ice cream which I didn't need but it was easy to eat. I found some Oxycodone from past kidney stones to help sleep last night but it did not work as a sleep aid but helped with the sore muscle pain. Last night was my first missed game in over 2 years.

H1N1 Symptoms - Almost always:
Cough and fever Y
Fatigue Y
Muscle aches Y Tremendously
Sore throat Y
Headache Y
Decreased appetite Y (down several extra pounds since contacting)
Runny nose Y

Sometimes:
Nausea Y
Vomiting N
Diarrhea Y (but always made it in time) ;-)

I will go to a Flu Assessment Clinic this morning for followup treatment since it is too late for the shot or the Tamiflu followup.

How long does it take for the virus to run its course, Randy?? Hope you will be feeling well again very soon.

My fall back food is cheese and nuts. :o:oI know... I know.... :o:obut I'm afraid that seems to be what I grab in a pinch. :o:o

Bills idea of eggs are really a much better choice. Maybe I will try to mend my ways.:exclamation:

I have been out of it for almost two months, and last night it finally hit me...
I have NONE of my fallbacks/staples in the house.
I had NO meat thawed, I had NO cheese, I didn't even have a can of SPAM!!! I decided I wanted to save money and time and not go out and get a burger, and it was a bad choice.
I ended up eating leftover Indian food (chix, cauliflower-but also some potatoe). There was not nearly enough protein, so after the feline rescue I went to Rainbow to get some mush food for my toothless kitty (okay, he has SOME teeth left) and I got some deep fried chix wings and 4 mozzarella sticks.
Not good choices, but I was so hungry and it was late, and it was close at hand.

So this weekend I'm getting my staples purchased again. I cannot have lack-of-choices derail me again!!!

We were planning on camping this weekend, but have cancelled the trip as my cat is coming home from the vet and the tooth-removal surgery ended up being a lot more than we or the vet thought it would be. Poor kitty. So we're staying home so we can give him the pain pills and antibiotics.
But tonight I think we'll go out for supper. Or at least go get something and bring it home.

8am 2hb eggs, brat wrap
11:30a lc goulash, 1 med cuke
2:30p iced coffee, lightNfit yogurt, 1oz peanuts
6pm dbl burger, NO BUN, side salad

Go to food
For snacks-
almonds, cheese with lunchmeat and my favorite is peanut butter with the high fiber content- it only takes 2 tbsp to satiate my hunger.

For meals-
eggs, meat rollups and I always have burgers, brats and dogs available. The burgers are the ones you cook frozen.

we are under flood watch here and I helped a friend move some boxes in his flooded garage. A real mess but the house and cars are ok

Not a bit, Bill, but I dropped the egg in my shake this morning before I cracked it and got little dabs of Carlson's on my sweater. :p

If that virus gets into your lungs, it's dangerous. I'm sure you know that, but I had to say it. ;)

I have NONE of my fallbacks/staples in the house....Well, good morning, Amy! :DSo this weekend I'm getting my staples purchased again. I cannot have lack-of-choices derail me again!!!Good plan, girl. You know the "fail-to-plan/plan-to-fail" saying.

Looks like you're all set, Monty. I would have trouble keeping to 2 tbs of peanut butter, so I don't put that on my list. Brats and smoked sausage are especially easy to partially thaw and cook quickly.

My fall back foods are rotisserie chicken, eggs and pre-made protein shakes by premier protein. I know that if I'm going to be some place where I won't be able to eat within the plan, I can take a shake along and I'll be o.k.

Breakfast was a cheese and bacon omelet, lunch will be a protein shake and dinner is ytbd.

Oh, yes, trying hard at the water thing...

Glad you have your kitty home, Amy!

Thanks Bill,
We are fortunate to have a high spot (if there is such a thing on delmarva). We are held hostage to an extent by the roads flooding- can't move around much. Some of my buddies and families may visit us if it gets worse- it has happened before (big party ;) even tho we are all geezers) :D

I never packed a shake until recently, and it does work well.
