I have shared my books and help all of them but she is the only one not losing .she has only lost 5 pounds and that was week one i have hepled her log her food and adjust things she is eating but nothing seams to be working. now she says that she has a weird taste in her mouth and back of her noise and that food she once love has a fowl taste and smell example onions and green olives .

Could the odd taste be ketosis? Is she losing inches? I have lost inches at one time without losing lbs. Is she drinking her water? Getting a little exercise?

I agree with Mikki, Starfish. Ketosis, which is good, causes bad breath and sometimes a bad taste. The best thing to do is drink lots of water. It backs off as time goes on. She might be taking some medications that would affect it, too. Keep encouraging her!

My experience ... and my sister's ... is atypical of what I read from most low carbers. We tend to go weeks without losing any weight, then drop 3 - 4 pounds all at once, then a pound or two a few days after that, and then stabilize again at the same weight for weeks.

Looking back over time, we are losing at an average of 1 - 2 pounds a week, but not at a steady rate. Maybe your friend is like that. See if you can encourage her to give it at least 8 weeks.

I also had some very strange things going on when I started. My allergies were much worse, and I broke out in rashes. I developed a new allergy to pistachios (a pretty low carb nut). After 8 weeks, I was seeing other benefits that made sticking to it make a lot of sense, and most of those things have gone away now (except the pistachio allergy).
