Okay, gang, I'm hoping to see a lot of great workouts this week! Keep in mind, it's not just that it makes ME happy (although we know how important that is :p  ;) ) but it also should make YOU happy to be doing something good for yourself !

Now I can look forward to a LOT of great reports from you, right ?
You know what they say? Be careful what you ask for :lol::lol:

However now that I have found the videos and can be more confident about what to do, I am pretty sure that I will knuckle down and do the resistance. You may find it amusing to hear, but nearly all the comments on the videos that I am going to use are along the lines of 'Thank you. I have had my resistance band for months but didn't know what to with it'. Sound familiar?

I am planning to do upper body M-W-F, and lower body T-TH. The videos are 7 -8 minutes long and I propose to just do the once through for at least the first week.

I've pretty much figured out what exercises I'll be doing with the bands. Just have to determine at what resistance level to start.

The bad news is that our stationary bike is broken (problem with magnetic resistance, probably - did we (I?;)) overuse it in such a short time? it was a Hannukah gift for my DH two years ago) and so my favourite, comfy (= lazy) way of doing cardio is out. I'll have to think about something pleasant and effective to do during these Hannukah days, to keep myself happy (& not only guilty).

Well, our DVD player is OK, so I did 15 min (standing) Pilates Weight-Loss Workout For Dummies & 10 min pilates abs.

That's what I want to hear!

It's very hard to know what to do without some kind of guidance, believe me! Seeing someone else demonstrate an unfamiliar exercise tool is definitely called for ! It not only helps with any confusion, but it also aids in preventing injury from using something incorrectly. Believe me, I have had videos/demonstrations, etc for every exercise product I have!

I am planning to do upper body M-W-F, and lower body T-TH. The videos are 7 -8 minutes long and I propose to just do the once through for at least the first week.
Sounds like a great plan !

Having had to swap out my favorite cardio since winter hit, I know just what you mean, Adina :(. However, I'm sure you'll do something else just like I did . We may not get to do our favorite, but when in life do we ever get to have everything go our way ;)?

My day/week has not started as I planned it, and I have no report of resistance exercise to make, nor will I, even though it is still only just gone midday :D

Just as I was having my breakfast shake I got the offer of a cancellation appointment to have my tooth extracted, so I agreed rather than have to wait until 21st January. I am not allowed to do vigorous exercise for a few days. I asked about resistance with my tubes, and was told not today or tomorrow, and see how I feel, and whether I have had any problems with the extraction site, on Wednesday. The dentist offered to write me a note :exclamation: but I explained that you were in the US so not to bother :)

(I had put this on last week's thread - just shows how dumb I was when I got back home.)

I'm still using my regular routine for the time being. I'll be switching to the bands soon but will continue using the pedaling machine. My plan will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday resistance bands preceeded by a light lower and upper body warm up. On Tuesday, Saturday will be cardio using the pedaling machine. Thursday will be reserved for my in home appointment with my physical therapist for stretching (range of motion) and deep tissue massage (circulation).

Before breakfast this was my routine:
30 minutes leg work on the pedaling machine.
15 minute warmup on the pedaler for the upper body.
1 set 15 reps of bicep curls, tricep extensions, front deltoid raises, side deltoid raises, wrist curls, bench press and butterflies using ten pounds.
10 minute upper body cool down on the pedaler.

Everybody have a nice day.

Today is rest, other than getting things done around the house which for me always seems to involve a bunch of lifting. I'm finishing up a project in the garage so lots of stuff needs to be moved around. I should try to get some stretching in later, I'm a tad sore today. (the good kind :D)

Ok, Karole, Amy and NW, I'm sneaking back in. Buddy was supposed to type the note but his paw pads were too excited b/c we finally did Karole's lap to see the lights, yesterday. I'm writing really small so I can sneak in while THE Shadow is busy looking for the triplicate note suggested to NW. I've already used Amy in my excuse pack (out looking for her you know...)Now she's been great (and the rest of you) and I'm the slacker. So when I have more than 1 day in a row to report, I'll check in again. 25min at lunch, 20 before and after work...Christmas light loop, as log as Buddy wants :)

Hi, Martha, good to see you again. I know what you mean about sneaking back in and hoping the Shadow won't notice (by the way it won't work) ((there just isn't any font small enough for that I'm afraid)

---but after the first lashing it will settle down and you will be in good standing (til you goof up again) (if you do) (if Buddy lets you)(check his email she might even contact him ---you never know)

Sincerely, Karole....who has had lots of experience in this matter (huh, Shadow)

Oh, yes, I did 10 min. on the elliptical yesterday also.

Hi, Y'all,

Today before work, it was 20 min Calanetics for abds/waist. I use her originial book as it works better for me than the tape.
Tonnight, 15 min on the trampoline as I am gradually increasing since I had my cold.

Karole, I need to adopt your slogan in your signature and paste it on my refrigerator!

Amy, I don't think you have anything to worry about in that department! ;) Way to GO walking UP those stairs when you didn't have to! I'll bet it's nice having the bike at home.

Shadow, I went to the chiro instead of the gym last night because my back was out and exercise might have made it worse. I'll be there tonight, though! Double-duty.

The chiro said I wasn't getting enough upper body pushing on the rowing machine. He said it was like a cardio-glide. Good for legs, though. I told him I get the pushing in on two other arm/shoulder machines and he was okay with that. Whew!

DH and I played ping pong for over an hour last night. I know it doesn't sound like any kind of workout but the way we play it I actually worked up a sweat and had my heart pounding. :D We have cork floors in our basement, very slippery in socks so that's an added challenge. I have to admit, I take pleasure in smashing the ball at DH and watching him sprawl on the floor trying to return it. It's the little things that make life worth living....

Will be helping my sister in law paint today.

Have a great day everyone.

We are leaving in a couple of minutes to celebrate Hanukkah at our friends' so I'd better report in right now.
Yesterday I did 7 min warm up and then 15 min of upper body from Ada's DVD (followed by a 4 min stretch) and strangely I felt really tired afterwards. Maybe I concentrated more on my form? - I have no idea at all.
Today I did 30 min of WATP 2 Miles - just to fullfil cardio day. (I put the dvd in and turn the volume down - the only possible way to stand Leslie Sansone dvd, I'm afraid;))
I'll try not to overdo patato latkes and other Hannukah goodies. See you tomorrow!

As long as your back cooperates, I fully expect that. However, if your back goes south, I want you to quit, okay? No problem. He taught me that you do more damage by exercising when you're out of alignment, so I keep up with it.

 But of course, you don't just do the same old things over and over on those machines, do you :suspicious:?
Well, that's the trouble with the machines. They don't lend themselves to much variation. I put two or three days (at least) between most of the resistance sessions. I can't stay away from the arc trainer, but I still only do it four times a week (max) and usually for only ten or fifteen minutes. Shorter if I add bike, dreadmill or now the rower.
PS - A thought, though .... Shadow my dear one, I thought I should update or else feel the wrath. The ortho doc will see me on Monday for the knee. He is a funny guy and I'm sure there will be a few jokes about age, clumsiness, cutting out the evil etc. If he wasn't a surgeon, I might like the guy.
The knee is improving a bit (certainly not as painful as broken ribs) and I got on the bike for a 10 min one legged warmup :)- the other went along for the ride.
Monday and this morning was resistance WO (all UB) and yesterday was just stretching with some isometrics. I'll do what I can so you wont have to hunt me down.
Cold here also but not what the other folks are reporting.

Hi all, hope everyone gets on the mend very quickly....it's no fun to get slowed down with ailments but at our age we do have that issue (is she listening??? do you think?)

I did my dvd with the exercise bands rather than weights today, just to juggle things up a bit. It was 10 min. of lower body and 10 min. of upper body so I had a good work out but I am glad it is done and reported so I don't have to have that nagging at the back of my mind the rest of the day.

Take care, be good and stay warm....if that's possible.

Good workout, Bill, as always :D! How are you coming on the bands :)?

Shadow my dear one, I thought I should update or else feel the wrath.
Ah ha!!! I reminded myself this morning to come looking for you if you hadn't checked in ! You must have felt the vibes coming ;)!
The ortho doc will see me on Monday for the knee. He is a funny guy and I'm sure there will be a few jokes about age, clumsiness, cutting out the evil etc. If he wasn't a surgeon, I might like the guy.
! At least he doesn't sound like he's all gloom and doom :p!
The knee is improving a bit (certainly not as painful as broken ribs) and I got on the bike for a 10 min one legged warmup :)- the other went along for the ride.
Take care to not end up lopsided !
Monday and this morning was resistance WO (all UB) and yesterday was just stretching with some isometrics. I'll do what I can so you wont have to hunt me down.
Great plan, Monty ! Love to see that resistance !

Hi all, hope everyone gets on the mend very quickly....it's no fun to get slowed down with ailments but at our age we do have that issue (is she listening??? do you think?)
I'm always listening ;)!

I did my dvd with the exercise bands rather than weights today, just to juggle things up a bit.
Awesome :D!!!!
It was 10 min. of lower body and 10 min. of upper body so I had a good work out but I am glad it is done and reported so I don't have to have that nagging at the back of my mind the rest of the day.
By golly, the young dog can learn new tricks   !

Good workout, Bill, as always :D! How are you coming on the bands :)?

Coming along pretty good. I have all the exercises figured. Now I'm just determining which band strength to use for each exercise. I've used two canes for so long supporting my weight that I'll be using the heavy bands for arm and shoulder work. I whizzed through 15 reps very easily with the light and medium bands, no challenge at all.

It won't be long till I'm using the bands.

Dearest Shadow, have you put the fear in to everyone ?? - after 10 am and no posts.
Still a bit gimpy so this was stretching day with a short warmup pace on the bike.
Very cold here so the bike may come into play again this PM.

Hi Monty golly just you and I this morning. Shadow hasn't even made an appearance yet.

Light stretching was in the order of this morning. Then later a visit from Toni for some more stretching and massage.

Everybody have a good day.

Hopefully you'll behave yourself ;). (...) We expect you to behave yourself !
I did, I did ! I can also report for yesterday and today:
Wed - 15 min lower body + 10 min stretch with band
Thu - PP TaeBo: Core + Cardio (+/- 25 min)
Another Hannukah dinner tonight, so I have to run. And yes, I will behave myself...:slywink:

It does take time to figure out which resistance - and where to hold your hands for each exercise.

Definitely !

A certain sign you need the heavier resistance bands ! Are you using Thera-bands or another brand? I know different brands use different colors.

It won't be long till I'm using the bands.
Cool !

Hi Monty golly just you and I this morning. Shadow hasn't even made an appearance yet.
Aha - that's because I was out walking briskly about town & getting some exercise in while running work errands. The best combo - getting paid to exercise ! As for this morning at home - too hectic to even barely have time to get ready for work let alone get on the computer !

Light stretching was in the order of this morning. Then later a visit from Toni for some more stretching and massage.
Ah yes - the Thursday ritual :)! Hopefully she'll treat you well in honor of the holidays :slywink:!

I think I am going to be to tired to do much of anything else. (but of course I will try):D:D

I'm going, I'm going! Yesterday was a rest day, plus I went to my muscle doc and I feel like he beat me up this time. I'm all packed for tonight, but I'm not going to do the whole enchilada. I'll probably lighten the weights and skip the rower.

Happy now? :)

Been a big food day, so I'm heading home in just a few min and am going directly to the exercise bike. 45min on that, eat supper, then off to work with the cats. Gotta stop the buffets!!
We had a party for my boss today - he turned 40. Lots of food was brought in and although I didnt' eat as much as the old me would have...I certainly parttook in goodies I wouldn't normally eat.

:o

So now the workout must take over...to counter the carb-hangover I will probably have tomorrow.

I'm not missing Shadow, really. :) DS and I are on a twice weekly fullbody workout routine so today was the day. Meeting after work is always tougher but we got it done! Just the other day I was saying how work had died right down and then I get two long days with another following tomorrow. Probably because I started a project, now I'm working.

Had a bit of frustration at the gym tonight to be honest. My shoulder is still misbehaving (impingement syndrome issues) and its making getting other muscles worked out difficult. I was trying to do chest presses, with a weight my chest muscles can handle, and my shoulder gave out again. I'm going to have a really impressive bruise on my pelvic bone from dropping a 35 lb weight on it. :o (still teaching my sister the finer points of spotting) I'll have to find some alternative exercises for a while.

Keep moving everyone!

I'm not missing. I know exactly where I am :) I cannot go anywhere anyway, there is white stuff outside and it is still coming down from time to time.

Our household has gone back in time to the days of everyone in the one room that has a fire, because our central heating system made loud banging noises this morning, so we turned it off  I will try and warm myself up later on the exercise bike in the cold, but no privacy for resistance at the moment, and won't be until at least Monday, when I have a service call booked, provided it gets fixed then.

Good morning Movers & Shakers!

My usual routine at least for a little while longer.

Hope everybody has a great day of moving and shaking!! Stay warm!

Is there not some other chest exercise you can do? I will admit I love my chest presses & flies but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. I read about a hanging chest press the other day - would that help you? Unfortunately, I deleted the email (it was Tom Venuto) but I can try to describe it if you'd like.
