Each year my employer does a free health screening and fair for employees. Each year I get cholestrol panels etc and last couple years I have been getting osteo checks. It is a simple, painless, very short procedure that you put your foot into a machine that sends sound waves through your ankle bone to determine the density of your bones. (There are other ways as well, this one is just quick and easy and fairly accurate).
Did you know that 1 out of every 2 women will have osteo problems and likely causes for breaks, back, spine, hip and joint trouble? One out of every two--those are not great odds! and like many things it is somewhat preventable. Checking on a yearly basis, working on getting in the calcium your body needs, doing resistance exercise--all of it can help without going on medication. (I knew my morning whole milk iced lattes were good for something!!!) But if you need to or feel that is the way to go, medication is also available.
If you haven't taken the 5 minutes it takes to get this done, make an appointment to do it, your healthy bones will appreciate it!
