Well, I can have my dreams, can't I :p?

Same plan for me, except that I am going to print a tick off chart so that I know what to do each day, and not get confused like I did last week, although I think I probably did do the right numbers of workouts

My hubby and I went for a hike today. The weather was wonderful for it. We went 2.5 miles, a lot of up and down hill, although it felt like there was more ups. It took 1 1/2 hours with a total of about 50 mins hiking and 40 mins. sitting and enjoying the views, and of course a couple of breathers in there. We spent 25 of the 40 mins at the peak, a very pretty view.:)
We are going to try and go hiking 2 times a week, if the weather permits, to get ourselves ready for Hawaii. We know that there is at least 2 hikes we want to go on there.
Happy exercising everyone!!!

I actually made myself go on my eliptical for 30 min. today. I hate cardio machines....:peeved: Biking is great, running in place getting nowhere not so interesting. I suppose I could bike in the rain but that takes a lot of fun out of it. Anyway I did some sprinting intervals and got good and warm for some stretching afterwards. I have the opposite problem of many of Shadows minions, love to weight train, whine, grumble and complain about cardio. :o
I am going to be having some surgery in a couple of weeks which will lay me up for a few weeks, so I'm trying to get in as good shape as possible before then, hence adding in some cardio.

Monday- Guess everyone is busy working out this morning, right dear Shadow??
Today was a 20 minute warmup followed by resistance for UB and LB.
We too are having a break in the weather on the sunny side so a walk on the boardwalk is in order.
Enjoy

5th day in a row. I'm starting to get tired. But I didn't have a hard job today, so I felt like I needed to exercise while I could. Tomorrow will be the same work wise. I supervise my dept when my supervisor is out, and it usually isn't a hard day, and that's what I did today and will do tomorrow. But by Weds. I might need a break.
Anyway, treadmill, 30 mins, up to 6% incline, speed up to 3.5, went 1.62 miles and burned 233 calories(I think).
Down 4lbs this week:D

My exercise today was walking. I walked the entire perimeter of our grocery store--it's huge--and up and down a few aisles. I'm fairly slow, but I felt pretty good afterward. My knee was talking to me a bit, so I rested it for a while when I got home and then went out to a clothes store to check on a couple of things.

My knee was talking to me a bit,...Maybe we could introduce our knees, Ruth, so they could talk to each other instead of crabbing at us! :p
Mine is howling tonight. I had a good workout and twenty minutes on the arc trainer. I might should have not done so much because they were hurting yesterday, which I attributed to the weather. Anyway, then I walked through the grocery store for an hour and that cooked it. :(
Part of my workout was carrying groceries from my car into the house. It took three trips! ;)

I'm all for letting them talk to each other, Carol. I wouldn't call mine "howling" today, but I'm definitely more aware of it because I'm not sure what pain is from the healing fracture and what is from the arthritis. My husband doesn't want me carrying groceries yet, so I didn't have to do that when I got home...but as soon as I get a clean bill of health, that'll be part of my job again.

twenty minutes on the arc trainer
I finally know exactly what an arc trainer looks like. We have a show on the discovery channel here called How It's Made and they showed how arc trainers are built the other day.
Sis and I had a good leg and ab workout today, Thurs. will be upper body. I will do some more torture on the eliptical tomorrow. :peeved:

Hello all!
I worked out for the first time in a LONG time yesterday. It felt great, although it was tough.
I followed the outline in PPLP
-stretch
-eek! a lion! (aka sprints) (30 seconds at 6.0-7.0 followed by 30-60 seconds at 3.5, 6 sets)
-escape the rhino (jumped onto a 12" platform 3x in a row, rest, 5 sets)
-moving across the stream (jumped right to left 4 times one way, then back 2x)
-getting a buffalo (pushups, which i can't do yet so i did 10 seconds of plank 5x; squats 10 seconds 5x, ab crunches 5 seconds 5x, more pushups, then more abs. 1 set of all)
-defend the camp (took a medecine ball and held it over my head and "threw" it down without letting go then lifted it back up. Oy. My arms are dying. 10x down/up, 5 sets)
-stretch
Yowza! I love running (planning to do a half marathon this spring) but I always neglect my strengthening... especially upper body. I'm sore today but looking forward to working out again in a couple days.

Did lower body Monday, and upper this morning. I am finding the lower body really difficult to do because problems with balance, and so I don't think I am likely to be getting much, if any benefit from it. I am thinking of changing to a 20 minute seated whole body workout instead. Would doing that on Tuesdays and Fridays be a good plan, or should I do it 3 times a week?

Believe me, you are :). Actually, working on balance is one of the best exercises for the whole body that there is because it involves everything . Maybe you should focus on that for now....
I am thinking of changing to a 20 minute seated whole body workout instead. Would doing that on Tuesdays and Fridays be a good plan, or should I do it 3 times a week?
If I'm doing total body, I aim for 3 a week. However, I do think instead of giving up the standing part, you really would be best off aiming to work on your balance :). Balance - and flexibility - are things we lose as we age so if you're having problems now, imagine how you'll be 20 years from now ....

Thanks Shadow! As far as the tests, haven't had them yet. All my medical needs are taken care of by the VA hospital, at times a slow moving organization. The tests are scheduled for the second week of February. The doctor explained it a process of inserting small needles at crucial points then stimulated with electricity. They are interested in time lapse between the stimulation and the reaction. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes.

Being on the west coast I tend to check in later than everyone else, but its only 8pm here.
I did 30 min of cardio torture again yesterday and today I went out to my brothers' place for a workout. They have a new DVD they've been using called S.W.A.T; strength, weight loss, abs, toning. Its done by some guy who is, apparently, an actual SWAT team member, calls himself Commander Tom (?) I think. It's a pretty good workout, broken down into the four different segments. It's one of those workouts with light to moderate weight, lots of reps and you never stop moving. He's really big on pushups and burpees. :peeved:
Tomorrow is upper body with my sis, but as I used really light weights today I don't think it will be a problem rest wise.

:peeved:
I HATE pushups and not this next cycle but the one after than, I will be doing workouts that have close to 150 spaced throughout the hour. Not a lot of joy to be had on those days :p!
Tomorrow is upper body with my sis, but as I used really light weights today I don't think it will be a problem rest wise.
Nah - I'm sure you'll be just fine :)!

To everyone - especially those off yesterday or those who just didn't get checked in before I left my job for the day....
It seems no matter how I do it or phrase it, if I leave someone off my list, I invariable upset them because they think I've forgotten them or they're not special enough to be named. So I've just learned to name everyone to save all the grief ;).
However, I don't want to upset anyone who was just resting or hadn't gotten here yet. Trust me - I know the faithful few and I know the ones who have to be hauled to the carpet kicking and screaming :slywink:.
So if your conscience is clear, no worries about a list - naughty OR nice. I just didn't want anyone thinking they weren't important enough to count....
Is that all clear as mud :)?

Ifit treadmill, 30 mins, up to 10% incline(1min),speed up to 3.4, went 1.57 miles and burned 242 calories.
About 10 mins into walk, my legs felt like they were trying to cramp, but I pushed through and it quite after a few mins. I've been taking potassium, so I figured my legs were just tired from work.

I'm told its relatively painless. Just a little stick from the needles. The reaction is more a measured reaction than an actual visual reaction. I'm no sure but I think they're measuring time lapse between two insertion points. I think!

Ok, went to the gym last night.
- sprints: shortened my recovery times between bursts. running at 7.0 mph, walking/recovery at 3.5
- vertical jumps: did 4 jumps onto a 12 inch high platform followed by 30 secs rest; 5 cycles
- "getting the buffalo" (pushups, squats, crunches, pushups, crunches) this was easier than the last time, but I can't do pushups yet... still doing plank
- crossing the river: this is hard mostly because I look so silly! I try to jump from one line on the floor to the next (about 4 feet probably).
- defending the camp: took the medicine ball and swung it hard out and down to the knees, then back up over my head. i think these are the hardest ones! 10 swings, rest, 5 cycles.
One of the trainers at the gym suggested I go to the boot camp workout at 8:00 am Saturday morning. :jawDrop: I might try it though. Not as sore today as I was earlier this week.
Happy Friday y'all! Will check in on Monday.

Oh definitely!!! I don't believe it has to be any specific formula :). I know there have been studies BUT I also know the human mind isn't a 'one size fits all' thing that is content with the same thing all the time - and for that matter, our bodies appreciate change, too ;). I do different times also . Today, for example - was 40/20. The other day the cycles were 30/30.
