Okay, gang, we've seen some good M&S to start the month with - let's keep up the great work, okay ;)?

However - it seems most of you are either not loving yourselves - or failing to report it .

Is that part impossible - or are you all just really needing to learn to exercise those brains along with those bodies ?????????

Funnily enough, that bit's easy for me. The exercise, on the other hand...

Me too Janet...being nice to me is a snap but that resistance stuff is .....work !!

I was nice to myself ....reading and sewing and installing my new vertical blinds was great too. I had a good week all in all. I'll do better at reporting this week, okay.

Well, I guess at least you're not finding both parts of the challenge difficult ! Hmmm - would've thought after all these years that you find exercise difficult  :p ;)? At least you're extraordinarily consistent!

It was lc, taco salad from a Mexican restaurant, no tortilla shell. The movie didn't happen, we just visited for a couple of hours and then I got to bring my grandson home for the night;), and he's eating cheese cubes as we speak, already low carbing it:lol:

post on challenges today....
Huge snow storm here- north and west even worse. Just got our elec back but folks in N. va, DC, and Balto areas may be out for a day or more. We just got a report that said we are only 2/3rds thru the worst of it and to expect winds up to 60mph.
the temp is 34 and dropping so with no heat during the night and morning, I jumped on the elliptical.... don't know how long as the displays were out but I finally warmed up. even did a short bit on the bands.
Dedication, right Dear Shadow??:)

Well since taking my catheter out on Thurs (sorry if that grosses anyone out) I have gotten up and walked back and forth from the bathroom at least a dozen times and even showed yesterday. It doesn't sound like much but it was a workout for me! Wow, did showering ever feel good!

I am wandering about the house a bit more now that I'm not taking the woozy drugs so much, I just take them at night now. I may even venture outside soon! If it stops raining. I miss ping pong.

On a more serious note I have actually been doing a bit of isometric stuff to try to keep the muscles in my legs awake at least. :)

Keep moving everyone!

It's good to see you back Jilly. Glad everything went well, make sure to get plenty of rest.

Today is my rest day. I think this is how my weeks will go... workout Sun., Mon., Tues., Off Weds, workout Thurs. and Fri. and off Sat.. That's 5 days of working out and 2 off.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.:D

Dear Shadow, thank you for your very welcome whip - I'm right back to reporting! Mind, I don't write 'back to M&S' as I have been exercising at least 4 times a week. Well, probably it was not good enough as far as challenge was involved but then I did it basically out of love for myself!;):D I also lowered my carbs to 25g/day and I am back to my comfortable weight (130 lbs). Anyway, I know perfectly well that regular reporting is for my own sake,still... as you know I have a big trouble with time management and it shows everyday. However, I planned (in ink! :)) my week of M&S. Maybe it'll work for a change?
Sunday - 15 min upper body (Tamilee) + 10 min abs (Pick Your Spot Pilates)

Hi Adina. Good to see you again. Good for you --you're at the weight you want to be. All that exercise has paid off--and of course PP too.

I just now finished a 20 min session on my elliptical. I also did 10 min. last night . I started to take a rest day today but I was cold so decided I would jump on the elliptical and get warm like Monty did the other day. It sure works !!

Checking so I don't get hollered at: Sunday is usually a rest day for me, but I hope to be back to the gym tomorrow if I can breathe.

One note is that I finally got weary enough of the leg cramps to start taking the muscle relaxer (flexeril) that both my doctors recommended. The result is that I'm getting much better sleep (with all its benefits). I just have to remember to take it early enough in the evening so I can wake up at six.

good news is the power stayed on - bad news is 14" on top of what we had last Sat. and this is the heavy wet stuff.
So Dear Shadow, rather than hire a snow removal service, I took this opportunity to shovel out the driveway for exercise .
OK, now the truth.
Dw and I cleared 3 ' of a 45' x 22' driveway before collapsing... took us over an hour. And I don't think there are any snow removal services in this area to hire. might get one of the cars out by Wed.
Don't know about exercising the rest of the week.... probably be too sore and stiff :D

I started phase 2 week 1 program 1 of the Ifit for my treadmill. I thought maybe I was ready... wrong. It was supposed to be for 30 mins, but I could only do 20 mins. I did get up to 10% incline, and up to 5 mph, but I couldn't go any faster, I tried and just couldn't. So I had to lower the speed several times to 4 to keep up. I went 1.25 miles and burned 207 calories.

I don't know if I just didn't have enough energy ( cause I've been feeling blah all day, very fatigued) or if it was just too much for me. So what I plan on doing is, to just keep repeating that program until I can get all the way through it.:)

Down 3.6 lbs for the week... this is the end of week 5.

I didn't post yesterday so I'm checking now to let you you know that I was active.

Sounds like you may be a bit like me in not wanting to take meds, but sometimes it really is worth it, ie: getting some rest. I may take another half pill of my painkillers, I want to get off them completely but its 1:00 am and I can't sleep.

Walked about a block round trip today, had to get outside as cabin fever is kicking in. Played some ping pong even, I just don't move my feet. And DH has to chase all the miss hit balls.

I may be late reporting in, but I have done my exercises. Upper body today, and 11 minutes on the exercise bike. I'd rather go outside walking but some rather familiar white stuff keeps falling from the sky - although not in the quantities that some of you are experiencing, thank goodness.

My treat to myself is to try a recipe for LC cheese sauce, which I just happened to have the ingredients for. It is the oven as I type, as part of a 'lasagne' made with some sort of green leaves which turned up in my veg box. The carb munchers are having ordinary lasagne, still made by me though :( My treats this week look like mostly being recipe trying ones - yesterday I made myself a LC Yorkshire pudding - yummy.

Hi, Ammy, I bought a pair of the MBT shoes last year and truly love them. I also bought a pair from AVON that are made in a similar fashion. I like them to walk in and feel like I am absolutely floating along. However, do not wear them for stair climbing and such as you feel very vunerable in them while climbing on things. I don't know anything about the new brand but Joe Montana has been touting them (for money no doubt) and said they really helped his back (after surgery I think). Anyway that's my 2 cents on it. Hope it helps.

Shadow, we are trying to watch out for everything--:paranoid::paranoid::paranoid:taking no chances. :paranoid::paranoid::paranoid:

On the MBT shoes--- I walk only on level ground in them... Our yard has slight rises to it and I don't care to walk on the unlevel ground at all. I usually wear them for walking in town or at our black top walking area around the ball diamond. They are perfect for that...like I said I feel like I'm just floating along. Which has always surprised me because these shoes are really heavy --but don't feel so while I'm gliding along. I wear them when going shopping also as they are extremely comfy.

Hi Adina. Good to see you again. Good for you --you're at the weight you want to be. All that exercise has paid off--and of course PP too.
Hi Karole. I'm glad to be back with all of you too. Who knows, maybe in a more regular way, this time. It's great to finally get rid of those stubborn 4-6 lbs that stuck with me for over a year. Have to watch up during the coming festivals (first Purim and then Pessah - both are 'killers' if I may say so:lol:).

I think the music increases the endorphins and blocks pain (and common sense). So pace yourself, my dear. I did! I did the arc trainer and the rower in decorus fashion, then a good lifting song came on so I went on the machines for another ten or fifteen minutes. Then a good arc-trainer song came on--and I shut it off!:D:tongue:

I tried the program again and got 4 mins into it and just couldn't do it. I think it's because it jumps right into running on a high incline, and I'm just not ready for that. So back to just doing it myself for awhile.

I didn't exercise yesterday, kept telling myself to, just couldn't get motivated. I feel like I have hit a brick wall with energy and exercising. Anyway I made myself get up today and just do it, literally had to make myself. That's sad I know.:(

Treadmill, 30 mins and 19 secs (wanted to round my calories burned up), up to 7% incline, 5 mph ( went no slower than 4, except warm up and cool down) went 2.07 miles and burned 350 calories.:D

Bill I do some isometrics about everyday and have been for a few years now. Got into it after I overdid weights and could barely lift a glass of water. From Amazon- John e. Peterson and his book "Isometric Power Revolution" is a good read because of the included history and it is the most encompassing of his books (he also has 2 other books I recommend).

This morning was 12 minutes on the bike, 15 minutes of resistance, 60 minutes cursing the blackbirds raiding the feeders and ongoing railing and raving about the blizzard. It isn't helping.
BK- when you argue with what is , you lose, but only 100% of the time.

He called me this morning and said he had gone to the gym and had forgotten our appointment. I commended him for working out and we made another appointment.

I tried a few squats yesterday, but I'm not too sure what I'm doing. It didn't hurt my knees although I was careful not to go too far. I think it will be helpful with climbing stairs.

I wonder what would happen if I added a few steps of climbing to my arc trainer ride. Too much to soon bothered my knees later, but maybe if I take baby steps?

For sure . Keep your eyes straight ahead and put your butt back like you're sitting in a chair. That's pretty much all there is too it. I know 99% of everyone will tell you to keep you knees over your feet & don't let them shoot past your toes, but if you keep your abs in, your eyes up, and your butt back, you won't have to worry about it ;). You never want to go more than half-way down - and with knee issues, less than that is certainly enough :).

I wonder what would happen if I added a few steps of climbing to my arc trainer ride. Too much to soon bothered my knees later, but maybe if I take baby steps?
Baby steps would make it a great idea! But nothing bigger/more than that, please :). It could be even with baby steps it will bother your knee. Better to go REALLY slow until you know for sure. Part of it will really depend on the stride/angle of the step.

I did all the upper body stuff and finished with the rower and the arc trainer. It felt really good tonight. Tomorrow is party night, so I will skip the gym, but I'll make sure to get some squats and/or boxing in over the weekend.

Thanks for the advice, Shadow dear. It appears to be all about posture, which is usually what the bottom line is on exercise. :)

Carol,

As you, Shadow and I have all said, it is all about your form. I find that squats do not hurt my knees, stair climbers do. And nice proper squats will strengthen your quads better than stair climbing, which will ultimately help your knees more. But baby steps is a good idea even with squats. :)

I will be going to the gym on Sun. Mostly to push my sis around but there are a few things I can do while there. (squats definitely aren't one of them :frown:)

Hi all!

Stretching and isometrics completed for the day. Nice thing about isometrics it can be done most anytime anywhere so I may do another session later this afternoon.

Treadmill, 4% incline for only a min, but I did jog at 5 mph for 16 mins straight, with 4 of the mins being at 6 mph, went 2.24 miles and burned 332 calories.
Way to go, Sheila :D!!! You're really getting into this jogging stuff! Hopefully you'll take to resistance work just as easily when you start doing it !

I had a good workout tonight. I considered the higher step on the arc trainer, but since I had plans to walk with the Geezer through Walmart (cement, ouch!) I decided to wait for another day.
Those knees are thanking you, I'm sure !

I did all the upper body stuff and finished with the rower and the arc trainer. It felt really good tonight.
Awesome :D!
Tomorrow is party night, so I will skip the gym, but I'll make sure to get some squats and/or boxing in over the weekend.
Great plan !

Thanks for the advice, Shadow dear. It appears to be all about posture, which is usually what the bottom line is on exercise.
You are welcome and absolutely correct :)!

Way to go Bill:exclamation: I know the Shadow is all for you doing it again (and again and again):D:D

As for moi --I just finished my Over 50 total body workout (40 min) plus I did a warm up on the elliptical for 10 for a grand total of 50 min. of work. Whew I can hardly hold my finger up to the keyboard !!

Whew! You all are making me tired just READING your workouts!!

Hey Shadow...can I PREpost my exercise for this weekend??

I will be cross country skiing and then also hiking on Saturday and Sunday. May try snowshoes, although I'm pretty sure the paths are packed nicely and I can just wear my hikers.

I've more or less decided that squats would be the better way to go. They're not exciting or glamorous (as I can see in my door mirror) but if they get me where I want to go, they're priceless.

I've always wanted to try snowshoes, but as uncoordinated as I am, that would probably be a dangerous thing :o!

Holy cow, am I feeling DOMS from the new delt machine I used Thursday! The one where you raise your upper arms against pads (like the chicken dance). I felt nothing when I did it.

Did upper body workout yesterday, so I have managed a whole week. Treat for me nearly every day has been reading - I have a pile of about 5 to go.

Sadly my avocado stone hasn't done anything beyond turn the water it is just about suspended in a yucky shade of brown, but I haven't given up on it yet.

30 minute warmup and isometric wo this morning.....much needed to loosen up from @@##&&***. This area is to have flurries on and off for the next 5 days and maybe some serious weather next wkend. All new records have been set and the kids will be going to school in July to make up for lost days.
This will be our last full week here before leaving for Florida for 6 weeks. BAD TIMING. We take the auto train out of Lorton, VA. Hope it is running and that we can get thru the DC area. DW is very nervous about it and is thinking of postponing for a week. Personally, I can't wait to get going but I will accede to her wishes because, if I don't, the trip will be pure hell :(;). Many of you can relate I'm sure.

My wife, Doy, and myself have never had any luck trying to sprout an avocado stone. They usually end up rotting and getting thrown out. Hehe! We gave up!

Hi everybody!

Stretching and Dynamic Tension routine completed for the day. You may notice that I changed from Isometric to Dynamic Tension in my exercising. Actually the exercise I'm doing did not change. I just mislabeled what I was doing.

My weekly routine will be AM stretching every day. Dynamic Tension on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.

The reason for this change...Doc says no for right now on the Resistance bands! Crapola!! But all is not lost. After using Dynamic Tension to build up strength and co-ordination he may give me the go ahead on the bands. Depends on my progress.

My first trip to the gym today! Not a lot I can do but what little I did felt great! :D And I always enjoy bossing DS around. She deserves it, she didn't go to the gym at all without me. :peeved:

After working out we went for brunch, so that definitely counts for the "be good to myself" part. I'll probably have a bath later too.

I'm really feeling quite good today, not sure what tomorrow will bring though.
