Well, since all of you are being awfully slow on the uptake (except for our British friends), and we're already mid-month without people catching on, this week you get NO credit for exercising unless you report on how you loved yourself that day .

Really, gang, it's not that hard, now is it  ????????

Ah ha - you're all afraid to report in now, aren't you ?????

I certainly hope all of you aren't going to end up on the naughty list !

This week will be lower body twice (do NOT like doing squats  ) and upper body once. I am going to do more stationary cycling as well as the weather is still iffy, but I would rather get out and about if I can.

My thing 'for me' will mainly be reading PPLP for the first time. I started with a used copy of PP, but now I want to see what developments and improvements I should be making to my eating plan. I shall also try to get down to some sewing related activities, preparing the way for when I judge the time to be right for making my new summer wardrobe.

Happy Valentines day all !! Don't for get to really love yourself today or the Shadow will be mad !! I'm going to sew a bit and read a bit .

Needle, I really like PPLP and reread it or bits of it quite often.

Well, as I said in another post , yesterday I did no exercise (other than a lot of housework) so I suppose even tho today is Valentines day the Shadow will be expecting me to do something. So I probably will.

Out and about is great, NW, but the cycling is a good sub - and even gives your body a change ;). As for the squats, I know of no one who actually LIKES them ! We just do them because they're good for us :p!

My thing 'for me' will mainly be reading PPLP for the first time.
Now THAT is definitely showing yourself some love !

I posted in the wrong place again. Seem to have trouble looking at the date.

Anyway here's my earlier post.

My first trip to the gym today! Not a lot I can do but what little I did felt great! :D And I always enjoy bossing DS around. She deserves it, she didn't go to the gym at all without me. :peeved:

After working out we went for brunch, so that definitely counts for the "be good to myself" part. I'll probably have a bath later too.

I'm really feeling quite good today, not sure what tomorrow will bring though.

I've done 10 squats with a shorter length of tube, and 12 minutes on my excercise bike. I may also do some more squats later when I have viewed the video again to make sure that I am doing them properly. I'm hoping to go to the library this afternoon if the weather stays as it is, so do not want my legs aching too much before that.

I read a chapter of PPLP whilst drinking my coffee as DH messed about in the bathroom  (I always thought it was teenage girls who took ages in there :D) so I'm pretty much on target, and I'm now going to get on with the rest of my life - you know the one we are supposedly doing all this for ;);)

I did a whopping 5 min. on the elliptical Sunday. Isn't that pitiful?? That doesn't need an answer Shadow...

But on the bright side I was good to myself and did a little sewing that I wanted to do and I read a little bit so all was not lost.

So sorry to hear about your slip. Hope you are feeling better soon. Ice can be so treacherous (sp)? Take care.

Shadow I did a full 20 min. on the elliptical this morning so ---much better than yesterday. Will do more if I get cold (and I will) It is only 20 or so here today and we are getting our snow after all, but it doesn't seem to be in a hurry to stick.

I haven't managed any formal exercise today, and I think I've caught a cold from one of our visitors. The little ones are in bed now, and the other grown ups are watching a film. I'm balancing Adina's studies by reading French authors. I've just started Le tour du monde en 80 jours, which is not too demanding for reading in odd moments here and there (though my French is not nearly as good as Adina's English).

Dear Shadow, it appears the "minor whiplash" is a bit more than that. Had to see the doc as the neck is a sleep killer. So we are in the MRI mode and the restriction on lifting, etc. will keep me on the sidelines- maybe the bike in slo mo will be ok.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.:mad: I did a semi-long post somewhere around 9:30 this morning and it is no where to be seen. Do overs are just not the same !

I went to the library yesterday and checked out a book w/dvd by a personal trainer named Brad Schoenfeld. I watched the demos for the various exercises then did them along with the modeler. It took me 40 min to do the whole body but it was a great work out and I feel like jelly but in a good way. I think those exercises and the bright sunshine outside has finally kicked my endorphins up a notch.

Anyway the book is titled Sculpting Her Body Perfect and he gives a a ton of info and I really liked being able to see the work being done on the dvd while he pointed out the exact muscle that was being used , and how just adjusting one little thing can make you use a muscle that you aren't really targeting, thus not giving you the work out on the muscle you do want to do....huh. Hope I made sense. I'm sure I said it better in my first post !:nod: Any how I will have to work out a routine for myself now to follow. I can keep this book for 3 weeks so will know how well I really like it by then.
I also like that he brought home the importance of visualizing the muscle you are working. He says to always keep a mind and muscle connection while doing the exercises. I'm afraid I am usually thinking....how much longer.

You and me both, Karole. That is why I do my exercise early and get it over with so I can forget about it and enjoy myself , although the tube workout is better than anything else that I have tried to do.

I managed to get an appointment and had my haircut earlier - much needed as I hadn't been since 10th December. Hi! I didn't get here last night, but I did do 25 mins on the arc trainer and held it down to ten on the rower. I wanted the bike instead, but there was a body on it the whole time. I let my heart rate get up to 140 on the arc for five minutes. Usually I back off when it hits 135. I feel good, but I breathe harder. I think it's good for my lungs.

Today's a rest day and I'll do some lifting tomorrow. :)

Karole-- very impressive... the focus on the contraction is the key to performing an isometric exercise properly... that and remembering the rhythmic breathing.
Speaking of isometrics I was able to do lower body WO with no neck strain- it felt good (course, the 6 prescribed ibuprofen helped a little). May get on the bike for a ride in the park program this afternoon.
I told the Doc that most medications tear up the digestive system especially antibiotics and nsaids ?spelling? She said "tough it out cause the whiplash needs the relief" . Nuff said:o

Still in slo mo here- some bike work while sipping ice tea and listening to classical guitar (cd titled "here comes the sun") with lots of music from the 60's- especially enjoy El Condor Pasa on guitar.
Some careful stretching first thing followed by a thick shake and drugs. Wow, what a combo.
May try a few isos this after noon (after more drugs):D
A good day to all

Sounds wonderful, Jilly :D!

Postponed a week- nervous DW. It's ok cause the rental is paid and runs thru april 15th (so what's another week?)

Just to tell you that I do all these M&S almost religiously;):D, but it's so hard to find time to report it. Not that they take so much time but I have always something to do. I know, I'm famous for a minor lack of organisation...
Tue- upper body + abs (+/- 20 mins)
Wed - lower body + stretch (20 mins)
Thu - Tae Bo (cardio) 15 mins

Tomorrow should be 20 mins of upper body and abs.
I have to dash as I have a Talmud study class this evening. See you (hopefully) on Sunday!

I thought you might have postponed. Oh well - this way DW (remember the "D" is dear, right ;)?) won't be nervous and you will hopefully be feeling better so you can enjoy the trip too :).

I did some yoga this afternoon. And apart from that, enjoyed some uninterrupted time with my books.

Haven't done the exercise bit yet today as we rose at 5 a.m. and left the house at 6 a.m. to drive up to Ft. Leonard Wood where our son-in-law was graduated from his Army basic and extended training. They'll be going to Korea soon. Anyway that has taken most of my day and I am worn out besides. I may find it in me to do the elliptical later after a "being good to me rest period".

Oh yes, I also have been good to me by purchasing a natural peanut butter mixer online and it arrived today. Can't wait to give it a whirl as I absolutely hate stirring the stuff up and usually wind up with it all over the counter and myself as well. We'll see if this thing is worth it or not.

(Shadow will probably think that I was just trying to get out of the arm exercise that I got by stirring the peanut butter up with a knife, but I am considering it as a be good to me treat.)

That's my story and I'm stickin to it.

Sounds like it has definitely been a long enough day, Karole :). My advice would be to use this as your off day and hit the elliptical on a day when you're not sapped before you even begin on it ;).

OMW - is that the one Kraft was selling? I always mix mine up in the jar - I find PNB is much easier to mix than almond butter! Of course, if it's too recalcitrant, I nuke it a few seconds first to cajole it into cooperating....

Tried the peanut butter mixer and by golly dh and I just loved it. No mess easy to use and easy to clean... what's not to like?

I saw a picture of it on the lid of my Smuckers natural peanut butter jar and got online and found the best price. It still cost me 10.95 including postage but I will sure appreciate having it.

Karole, you must be improving greatly if Shadow's giving you a break! Good girl!

I'm a good girl too, Shadow! :D I did upper and lower resistance today plus twenty minutes on the arc trainer. Tomorrow's a rest day, loosely speaking. I actually have to dash out of work early and drive an hour to get to play my guitar. Could I work that into an upper body exercise? Right arm? It counts!

Tomorrow will be another walk and some gardening. Nothing really strenuous but it will be good to get outside and move.

Hi Movers & Shakers!

Stretching, followed by Dynamic tension.

Jilly's post relating about taking an hour walk reminds me how much I miss the capability of taking a nice long leisurely walk. A word of experience from me. "If you can still walk, even just for a short distance...DO IT! Someday you just might not be capable of taking those taken for granted steps!!"
WALK IF YOU CAN, ITS GOOD FOR THE BODY AND MIND.

Everybody have a great Friday!

Such good , no great advice Bill !! We are so often oblivious aren't we--never appreciating the truly wonderful experiences that are there for the taking. We close our minds to so much around us, not noticing til we lose it for a while.

I just finished 20 min. on the elliptical and did a bit of intervals with it too. Makes it seem a shorter time when I rev it up like that.

Yes, you do Ms Shadow.... and altho I love to give you grief ever so often ... (okay, on a daily basis) ... I know you are giving us the really good advice and encouragement we need.

And you're right if I had forced myself to do the work last night I would have done it slowly and without much effort and not much gain except to be able to say I did it.
Now, I did a bit extra today and am planning some upper body with weights later on today, so oh wise one, once again my thanks for the good advice.

I didn't get my walk in today, way to busy gardening! I accomplished a fair bit though, a good start on my ever increasing list of things to get done before we go away and the house goes back up for sale.

I put a bunch of new compost in the garden beds today, lots of wheelbarrowing and shovelling, tomorrow will be power washing the patio and driveway. That should be enough moving and shaking for Sat., Sun. is back to the gym. :D

See y'all tomorrow,

Morning Movers & Shakers!

Stretching is in order for today. I'll be putting some effort into walking around apartment, this will depend on Doy's plans. I don't attempt this without her around. With my balance problems, I don't want to end up on the floor a statistic of 'I've fallen and I can't get up!!'

Have a great weekend!
