Well, a new week will soon be under way. Don't forget the challenge this month is to work on specific goals.
Since we're now at mid-month, make sure to assess where you're at and if you're getting any results. If you're not, you still have a couple weeks to alter your plans so you can still achieve your goals. So don't give up - a minor adjustment here or there just might be the "secret" to your success :slywink:.
Finally, I want to thank all of you who stick with this week after week - you guys are the greatest ! I appreciate each and every one of you :)! Thank you all for brightening my days with your efforts and your antics :D!

I'm certain there's a pretty funny malapropism with your typo. I'll just leave it at that...

It is we who thank you Shadow, for so diligently looking out for our well being. And kicking our a%$^*s when necessary. :)

I must admit having read all I've read about you Shadow, I'm a bit intimidated to join in:-) But here goes...
I've looked at the recommended exercises in PPLP and 6WC, and knowing myself, I know that I won't ever do most of them. I am trying to do the weird stomach/core exercise of pulling my belly button into my spine eight times a day, and I'll be interested to see if I get any results from that:-) But the only exercise I have ever done consistently is exercise DVDs, especially the ones with the hardcore dance music (which may be a bit tragic at my age of 40 in less than 2 weeks, but hey, I enjoy myself - I even have a size 16 pink and black stripy leotard that hubby bought me which I can just about squeeze into on a good day:-)
So my goal for what's left of this month is to do at least something every day, for about 20 mins minimum. Hubby has a Tai Chi DVD that he's keen for us to do together. I've got a teach yourself belly dance DVD that I'd like to get back into, and I've got three Ministry of Sound Pump It Up DVDs, one Clubland DVD and the one that Colleen Nolan did with Deanne Berry with all the fab 80s music:-)
With the exercise DVDs, I'm planning on avoiding the cardio bits, and doing either the dance routines, which are lots of fun but a bit gentler, or the toning bits to build up my muscles and strengthen my core. Even just the warm ups and cool downs have some good stretches in them and getting more flexible has to be a good thing.
So hopefully I'll get up the energy to start tonight (UK time it's already 7:35pm). I do think posting my intent and results will really help to get me motivated...

That is exactly how I felt, Eleanor. I just couldn't get the Gladiator image out of my mind :D But I was brave enough to venture in, and I'm really glad that I did. Shadow has very patiently got me doing resistance work with a Reebok tube set that I bought years ago but didn't use, and I really do feel better for it.
I do think posting my intent and results will really help to get me motivated...
Oh, it will get you motivated, all right. Fear of being named and shamed, or feeling the whip (even our side of the Atlantic) will see to that :eek: Welcome to the club.

Yes, Welcome in Eleanor, we always love new victims.....er I mean movers and shakers....(really Shadow that's what I meant to say !)
All kidding aside-- no need to hesitate to jump right in or be fearful to try new things. Ms. Shadow is wonderful to us all even when whipping and snapping sounds fill the air ! She just wants to make sure we do the best we can and not hurt ourselves in the process. She gives great advice and is always there for us to answer questions . So come on in and start moving and shaking with the rest of our group.

Thanks everyone:-) We did some Tai Chi last night and even though it's so gentle and slow, it's much harder work than it looks:-) We were both creaking and clicking away even during the warm ups...
Goal for today is to either do more Tai Chi or dig out one of my exercise DVDs and do the toning section...

Hello everyone,
nice to see that you are all keep on M&S and that they're also new faces (hello Eleanor). I was rather naughty for some last weeks and all I have is just another lame excuse (busy, moody, &ct). Anyway, so here I'm back, hopefully it'll last at least a week or two;). I know about March challenge but my impression is that I should just stick to M&S and reporting it. I'll also try (again), on weekdays, to divide my daily portion of exercise into two 10-15 mins segments (am & pm). Probably another wishful but who knows?
Sun - 15 mins cardio (Tae Bo Upper Body) + 8 mins abs (beginner pilates)

I must admit having read all I've read about you Shadow, I'm a bit intimidated to join in:-) But here goes...
Welcome, Eleanor!!!! Don't worry - I'm usually pretty nice to the newcomers ;)!
I've looked at the recommended exercises in PPLP and 6WC, and knowing myself, I know that I won't ever do most of them. I am trying to do the weird stomach/core exercise of pulling my belly button into my spine eight times a day, and I'll be interested to see if I get any results from that:-) But the only exercise I have ever done consistently is exercise DVDs, especially the ones with the hardcore dance music (which may be a bit tragic at my age of 40 in less than 2 weeks, but hey, I enjoy myself - I even have a size 16 pink and black stripy leotard that hubby bought me which I can just about squeeze into on a good day:-)
You are so right to focus on what you want to do and will do ! It doesn't matter what it is - the main purpose is to get up and get moving . Of course, as time goes on, you'll want to change/switch your routine, but for now, whatever gets you going is awesome!
Marvelous plan  :D!
Even just the warm ups and cool downs have some good stretches in them and getting more flexible has to be a good thing.
Oh yes - and the older we get, the more important it becomes !
So hopefully I'll get up the energy to start tonight (UK time it's already 7:35pm). I do think posting my intent and results will really help to get me motivated...

25 minutes of Tai Chi - slightly less with the bones creaking, and I think I've got the first two stances ok. Whether I'll remember them tomorrow is anyone's guess:-) Giving my knees and upper arms a good work out though...

Shadow, I went to the Horse Fest yesterday and believe me I got in walking and stair climbing too. The different programs we wanted to attend were located in diffent buildings and were quite a distance apart. To top that it was raining off and on so I was toting a heavy purse and an umbrella besides. Does this work for you????:D

Considering your track record, I think just sticking to M&S is a great goal, Adina :p ;)!I do my best (well, at least a lot) to pursue my goals and not to put them off. I have bought - & started reading! - a book about procrastination (why you do it, what to do about it *Now*), so you see how committed I am!!;)
We are going out to theatre this evening, so I did 20 minutes in the morning: 10 min thighs & 10 min upper body (both from 10 Min Solution DVD). It wasn't difficult as on Mondays I have classes only in the afternoon. The real challenge is tomorrow, I am a night-bird kind of person and doing things before 7.30 am is a considerable challenge. See you tomorrow, then.

Did the warm up, toning section and cool down of one of my exercise DVDs. Good stretches. I was astonished to find I could do a plank for a whole count of eight, and even a few pushups (the female kind on the knees)...

Ooh! OUCH!! See what I mean? That whip smarts, even at long distance :cry: What the heck, us Brits are tough - if we poke our noses through the door we give our best shot :D:D
Sulks, but decides to stay long enough to say that I did do my upper body workout yesterday. I can feel that I had to miss the workouts at the middle and end of last week, still I'm up and moving again now. The marker doesn't seem to show up any more so it will have to be the tape measure
Spring is showing her face at long last, and I got out in the garden briefly yesterday. I'm gardening indoors today, sowing seeds in trays and pots whilst watching live cricket, which I love. Soon though, I'll be adding outdoor gardening to my movement repertoire :)

I woke up with a terrible headache this morning and my plans to exercise in the morning had to be changed. I took some usual painkillers but it didn't work that well and I felt really awful during classes. I should have stayed home, I believe. Anyway, back home I took another pill and slept for two hours. Finally, I had a splendid idea to do some stretch with band, it helped me to relax and gave me the impression that I did something for myself. I'm going to bed to continue reading my book on procrastination, Shadow - apparently it makes wonders!

Gosh wouldn't it be great if we could all get jobs as belly dancers and get our exercises in that way. Shadow would only have to get after us on the week ends.
And we'd get paid for it too ! Life is so unfair.
I did 10 min. on the elliptical this morning and dh and I just got back from a 32 min. brisk walk so a total of 42 min. of deliberate exercise as well as 20 or so min. of inadverdent exercise while I was cleaning ou the car really well.

Sheila :D :D :D!!!!!!!!!!! I was going to come looking for you today, so I'm glad you saved me the energy :p ;)! Great to see you again :)!!!!
Way to go on those hikes, girl !!!! Looks like today should be a rest day, huh ;)?

Did another 20 minutes belly dancing last night. Great for the core. Today I got lost in Tunbridge Wells and had an unexpected long walk up and down some steep hills, also brisk because I had a train to catch and no idea where the station was:-)

I've got my days muddled up - I thought today was Wednesday - so I'm a day late, but I have done 15 squats with the handles at my hips.
Needlewoman...I thought today was Friday...imagine my disappointment to learn it was only Thursday.
sigh...

Yeah today is a rest day, but tomorrow and Sunday I'm going hiking again. As long as the weather is nice and I'm able, I'll be doing a lot of hiking as my exercise. I love the outdoors.

I know I'm late but it was a busy day, we rode for 5.5 hours and then I went to line dancing lessons for 1 hour---just so I wouldn't let my girl friend that likes to line dance down. I had to make myself go, but after I got there the dancing was okay. But we didn't stay as long as usual, Thank goodness. Now I have a nice hot cup of tea and I'm off to enjoy it.

Hi, Karole! I'm even later.
I did resistance and a half-hour of endurance (arc trainer 20 min, rower 10 min). It was a bit crowded and I didn't get to the delt/fly or the shoulder lift, but I feel it was just as well.

Hi, Shadow,
Glad to be feeling better since my Gastroenteritis & ER trip last week and 5 days of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.
Yesterday, 45 minute Callanetics tape.
This am, 30 min Callanetics tape. Tonight, plan to walk outside before our last "winter" chill.
Have a great day, all.

That's okay - as you said, those shoulders see a LOT of work so I personally feel it's fine to get them a break now and again ;).

Hi, all! In light of my stiff workout yesterday, I rode the bike tonight, plus plain old arc trainer with no IT. I did the lat pull and the fly/delt at a weight where I didn't have to strain. Then I went to the chiro.
Oh, I also tried the hanging leg lift thingy (the gym was empty) and decided it isn't a good idea. I think I'm both too heavy and too short, because my neck and shoulders tensed up way too much. Maybe someday.

Went hiking today, went 4.75 miles in about 2 hrs. Was completely wore out when we were done. Next time we need to take a snack to give us that extra boost. Still had a great time:D

Walking yesterday - nice brisk walk to the other end of town in my lunchbreak to visit the health food shop and get my whey powder:-) Since it's the weekend I'll probably be doing walking with the children for my exercise.

Hi all, how are things going? I just finished my first Tai Chi workout. It was super. I love it. Makes you feel sooo relaxed. I forgot to look at the clock so don't know how long it actually took , will have to do that another time.
I ordered the dvd last month and it took almost a month to get here--could not believe how long it was in coming as I ordered it from Tenn. (a border state) just so it wouldn't take so long. I think they sent it by mule train.
Anyway, I wanted to do something different , so I have a couple of weight/ resistance dvd's , a large ball workout dvd, a stretch band dvd, elliptical machine, walking outdoors and now my Tai Chi dvd. I could do something different almost every day of the week. Is that a good plan Shadow or should I not diversify quite that much? I thought I would be keeping my body guessing, but it may need some sort of routine. Let me know.

Today is a rest day, especially after yesterdays hike.
Down 2.4 lbs for week 11:D hopefully I keep it off, we all know how the scales like to go up and down. I'm weighing in a day early, cause I won't be home in the morning to weigh in.

Did some more walking yesterday, to the shop and back - since my village is on a hill and I live at the bottom, any walking does involve a bit of effort:-) Today I walked all around the village, delivering a heavy Avon order (two bone china cake stands? Why?) and then shopping and then the park... more walking later on too...

They're all good workouts, so I say give it a whirl and see how it goes ! You can do it that way for a month and if you feel it's giving you good results, stick with it. If not, then you can back up and go with a bit less diversity and see how that works during the next 4 weeks :). Sound like a plan :)?

Thanks , Shadow I will try that for the next 4 weeks and let you know. We have a week long trailride coming up in mid April so will take along the dvd that I will most likely be willing to do and or is doable inside a camper. Of course I will be riding daily as well.

I know that, for me, it would be too much variety. But we are all different and you won't know until you try it :).

I think riding, walking & lots of tai chi/flexibility/stretching would be great for that week !
