When I bought my first Body Fat Monitor some years ago, I recorded a series of BF and H2O %'s. I found that I reached minimum BF% and maximum H2O% around 1900 in the evening. My maximum H2O was at 56% and I found from a graphical display, a linear relation between them. Thereafter, I "normalised" each BF% and H2O% to a standard H2O% of 56%. This gave me a way of tracking BF% on a consistent basis.
A more trenchant criticism of the in-built monitor equations is the assumption that BF%'s are age related rather than health related. I understand why many commenters use the Navy Equations for LBM (lean body mass) estimates. I do so myself. In fact, I use the Navy results to choose the "age" that I use in my newer Monitor. However, these type of analyses raise the issue of how reliable the visceral fat numbers may be. |

When it gets to the point where BIA is claiming it can distinguish visceral from subcutaneous, and give skeletal muscle too, I really start to have doubts. I'm just pleased the Ernie reports he's found a BIA scale that gives anything like consistent results--even that's a big step forward. |

Hi, thought I'd intro myself, been doing 6WC for about 3 weeks now, in the middle of meat week #1 but find from a time perspective doing days with a couple of shakes instead of meat.
![]() have done PPLP before and it worked but was recently diagnosed hypothyroid and gluten intolerant so wanted to use the 6WC to jumpstart myself back into a cleaner eating pattern. I'm liking the program so far and will continue for a few more weeks and then transition back into PPLP, hopefully for good. |

I've now finished the first six weeks, for a total of 25.2 pounds lost, going from 231.4 to 206.2. I'd wager I have about 30-40 more to lose, so I'm continuing the shake/meat weeks until I get closer to my "goal". I don't have a specific goal weight in mind, as I work a fairly physical job. Looking in the mirror, I can see a lot of muscle which was hidden under the fat, so I suspect height/weight charts will be incorrect for me. I think (If i recall correctly) they say I should weigh around 145. I think I'd have to lose muscle to hit that number. My guess is 160-170, but as I said, I'm just going by how I look instead of a number. Though, the scale is helpful to track progress.
I averaged about five pounds a week, but didn't lose much during week 5, as I got sick, and that stalled out my weight loss. I managed to not gain any, though. I suspect that Nyquil/Dayquil have a lot of sugar in them. |

Welcome Maile I suspect gluten intolerance as well. I have been on this program for 8 weeks and all intestinal problems are totally gone. I have had 2 slices of rye bread in 2 weeks which did not effect me adversely but am reluctant to use more. Q- can you tolerate very small amounts of gluten (1/2 slices of "lo carb" bread per week) or must you be abstinate. Anyone else please advise on the gluten subject Thanks, Monty |
