FYI: The new Via Starbucks Instant Coffee is great in the shakes (once you are done with the two week caffeine ban). I am loving the wonderful flavor it gives my caramel, cookie dough, vanilla, and chocolate flavor powders. WOW.

I just received my copy in the mail a couple of days ago (in the middle of a hellstorm of clinical inspections @ work) and haven't had a real chance to read it yet. I hope to check it out and perhaps start the 2nd week of December....by then I might actually also get through this thread.

We made it through Disney World! We each had a brat with sauerkraut/mustard - wasn't a perfect meal but a heck of a lot better than it might have been - actually, Disney World had better choices, it you were willing to pay $$$$$.
As of this morning (Day #4), I've dropped 3.5#, and my husband has dropped 3.5#. I need to lose about 25# total, he's just fine where he's at. My belly seems flatter (but nowhere near where I want it to be!). I had one heck of a headache the last couple of days, but that appears to be over - and a terrible mouth taste (ketosis? - I checked and I am pretty deep) - but at yoga yesterday my instructor wanted to know what I was doing different, said that I was no longer shaking and hyperventilating on the poses - could the extra protein and supplements work that fast???? Questions:

Sorbitol is not one of the better sweetners, so no, I wouldn't subtract it. IMO you'd be better off using a spoon of plain cocoa (1 or maybe 2 g of carbs) and sweeten with Splenda - preferably the tablet form if you can get them where you are.
BCAA - what are you using in your shakes at the moment? Some form of whey protein? If so it will contain some BCAAs. If it is a good one you don't need to add extra - especially as you are adding leucine (which is itself one of the 3 BCAAs).

I don't know how to get caught up w/ this thread. I'm only on page 25 as I have so little time to be here. But, I don't want to miss anything. Dear, dear. I don't even know what I've missed.
I'm on week 5 so this is a week of shakes and 1 meal, again. I feel great and lost 6.5 lbs. the first 4 weeks. I'll be getting lab work done the week of 12/7 as my blood sugar seems to be better w/ food than w/ shakes. I've been on niacin for 3 weeks now for my lipid numbers. I just appreciate knowing you all are here. |

If you mean to lower LDL cholesterol, it's not clear that doing so offers any health benefits.
But, as Dr Mike mentioned in a recent post, a clinical trial showed that niacin reverses arterial plaque, so that seems like a good thing anyway! |
