The Santa Barbara Choral Society performs Handel’s Messiah

Composed for a fundraiser for a Dublin prison, Handel’s Messiah has become a perennial Christmas favorite everywhere. The entire performance is in three parts and takes over two hours for the entire performance.  MD’s choral group, the Santa Barbara Choral Society, typically performs all of Part I, and selections from Parts II and III.  I’m crazy about the whole thing, but the selection that people are most familiar with is the Hallelujah Chorus from Part II.
Here is the Santa Barbara Choral Society performing the Hallelujah Chorus.

MD and I both wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  4. Wonderful ! I adore Handel !
Wishing you and your family a very Happy Christmas and New Year from over this side of the pond !

  5. We sang the Hallelujah Chorus in my choral group, and one other number from the Messiah. It is difficult to sing, especially for tenors and sopranos. (I think we had a couple who were not able to hit the high notes, and should have but didn’t lip sync them). But it is so beautiful, I could not stop tears from coming to my eyes during the performance.

  6. Thank you, Drs. Eades!
I viewed an original manuscript of the Messiah in the British Museum way back in ’85 and could hear the music in my head, thanks to listening to my father sing it for many years.
My father had major heart surgery last summer. Much of the info you receive when a close one has cardiac-related conditions has to do with lifestyle, none of which applied to him. It was a genetic condition and some wear and tear from being 82. He’s been my inspiration for a positive and healthy lifestyle. I’m so pleased that he sang in the church choir last night and played in Tuba Christmas a couple of weeks ago. Any mention of the Messiah reminds me of his influence.
Thank you for all you do. You can end 2011 knowing that you have made a positive influence in many people’s lives, not such an easy task in the stubborn world of nutrition. Hallelujah!

  7. What a treat! A good Christmas concert is always better than a box of cookies. I was lucky this season to attend the Oaks Camerata Christmas performance. Just love it! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

  8. Best wishes for a Happy Holiday and a Wonderful 2012 to you and your family.
Thank you so much for your blog and posts. I enjoy and appreciate the important work you do.

  9. Dr. Eades,
Merry Christmas and happy new year to you both.
My wife got me your 6 Week Cure book about a week before Christmas and I’ve been following your shake menu + 1 meal daily plan for about a week now.
So far so good but the only concern I have is that I’m still occasionally hungry, even after consuming what I see to be the max according to your plan. Any suggestions? I’m male, age 43 and around 180, if that helps. Thanks!

  10. By the way, if “just tough it out and go hungry for awhile until the next shake/meal” is your advice, please say so, I can take it.

    1. That’s the best way. Or you might want to beef up the fat content of the shakes a bit. Add a little more coconut milk or heavy cream.

  11. Fabulous! Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas. Wishing you a Happy New Year. Like the others here, I’m delighted to see your new posts. I return often to your older ones. Thanks and best wishes.

  12. So glad to see you posting again, and look forward to all the excellent info you’ll send this new year. Thank you for the video. Our choir does the whole Messiah every other year–You and MD should come to Colorado Springs next December!
