I’m right now languishing in spam purgatory if not spam hell.  Somehow the ever-noxious spammers have figured out a way through my spam filter and have littered the ‘comments awaiting moderation’ section of my blog with literally thousands of spams.  It started happening about the time we got to Dallas last week and has gotten progressively worse.  When we arrived in Portland, Maine late yesterday after a long day of weather-delayed flying the situation had worsened and I had spam everywhere.
I beat a path to my web guy’s door (his office is in Portland).  He installed a plugin that requires that a commenter enter a series of letters and/or numbers to be recognized as a human and not a spammer.  I apologize for any inconvenience this causes anyone, but I had to do it.
This morning, for the first time ever, I had zero spam.  However, I still have hundreds and hundreds in my comments awaiting moderation that I’m going through plucking the real comments from.  It’s a tedious task that probably won’t get done today as I have a busy, busy day ahead of me here.  So if you’ve got a comment that hasn’t been posted, don’t despair.  I’ll get to it as soon as I can.
And, again, I apologize for the pain in the rear factor in having to enter the letters/numbers to comment, but it was either that or require registration.

  1. I understand completely. It’s so frustrating to have to wade through all the junk to get to the real comments. What a huge waste of time! I hope the new system works better for you. Too bad they don’t make something similar to deal with all the automated phone calls Iget… (I’m on the no call list but it hasn’t helped.. I get those annoying computer dialed calls that have a recorded message once you answer. I get them several times a day. Now I don’t answer the phone unless I recognize the number.)
    Hey Amy–
Thanks for commiserating. Since installing the new plug in requiring commenters to type in a series of letters and/or numbers I have not had a single spam. Problem is, I’m still working through the hundreds I do have from before plucking out the real comments (such as this one) along the way.

  3. If I had known you were in Portland, I’d have picked you up and taken you out for a nice low-carb lunch! (And probably would have talked your ear off and asked question after question after question … hmmmm, guess I know why you didn’t ring me up!)
Hope you got a chance to see the colors. It’s so beautiful here in October!
    Hi Kathy–
That would have been great, but we’ve worked from dawn to dusk every day we’ve been here and are leaving at the crack of dawn tomorrow. Maybe the next time we come back.
    Cheers–
